Can I ask the dumbest question in the world?

Why do Republicans appear in front of the NAALCP? Why bother? I don't see Libs speaking at the NRA or Heritage. So why do we need to pay them the lip service they don't pay us?

Perhaps the opportunity to change a few minds, even at least 1? The way people behave in public, especially around their "peeps" is a lot different then they act when they're not.

Plant a seed and maybe, just maybe, it will grow.

Because they are invited and telling your story and giving your opinion to people diametrically apposed to your philosophy may change one or two or maybe even several percentages of voters minds and that is enough to win the whole shebang.

He should have handed out a few personal Romney bucks to the crowd. ;-)

He should stick to his own plantation and let them stick to theirs.

Because we are unafraid to speak the truth -- anytime, anywhere and to anyone.

It’s clearly not because they expect to change any minds.

My only guess is that if candidates at least go:
1. Their base is reminded just how much the race baiters hate us and how the race industry works.
2. It takes away the leftard argument that your candidate won’t even talk to the darling racist bigots.
3. It reminds those guilt ridden idiots that voted for Hussein the first time to prove they weren’t racist might want to vote for the American this time to prove they aren’t idiots.

It is sort of a pro-forma “I’m not a racist” thing. Romney didn’t do it for the NAALCP, he does it for the mush middle who might otherwise wonder if he really is secretly a racist. Just think of the headlines “Romney refuses to speak with Black Civil Rights Organization.”

The odds of him getting any votes out of that room are miniscule anyway. Not going at all would make him look cowardly, and he'd be accused of not even giving them the dignitiy of an appearance, which would be spun as racism. So, he's gotta go.

And since he's gotta go, and isn't likely to win converts there no matter what, whether they like him or not is immaterial. In fact, taking a public positon when you know you're going to be booed looks like integrity rather than pandering, and that actually may matter to some voters. Plus, the booing will make the news, as will Romney's statement that he wants to repeal ObamaCare. In other words, they gave him free advertising for an important plank of his campaign.

And had he not mentioned ObamaCare at all, they'd have pointed to that omission as cowardice on his part. Really, he played it the only way he could.

Because to do so demonstrates a higher standard. A good American should make the appeal to ALL the people with the hope of correctly informing and engendering more unity. Such a thing would never appeal to Obama, who, per Alinsky, continually seeks to divide.

Totally agree. All it does is give the liberal MSM something to use to make the GOP look out of touch with the “folks”.
