Akin just decapitated any chance the GOP had of taking the Senate. The damage resulting from his statement resonates far beyond MO. The chances of Obamacare being repealed died as well.

Somewhere tonight, Harry Reid, his majority leader position assured, is breathing a huge sigh of relief.

If he steps down, and someone with common sense takes his place, the damage can be minimized, however I don’t see this taking place without lawsuits by the Democrats, dragging this issue out further.

This is a big hit eitherway you look at it, ultimately the best thing for the GOP is to cut this guy off completely, exile him, let him go find a job in the private sector and stay out of politics.

If he stays on the ballot, he’s going to be an albatross all the way through until November.
