You are, of course, correct in the main. And it was correct to let O’Donnell run in Delaware, and Angle in Nevada.
As long as they represent the people who elected or nominated them first. For that matter I have real issues with the power of the speaker of the house. Nancy Pelosi used it as a weapon and Johnny the Jellyfish impedes a lot of good legislation.

Angle and O'Donnell won the runoff's and did not threaten the most important election in my Lifetime and I am not young.
Get it over with bring back Kit Bond and be done with it
