I liked it too. He used comedy to make some pretty important points.

And I’m not sure if his point about Afghanistan really helps or hurts the GOP). Ultimately, Eastwood isn’t playing to a demographic that Romney doesn’t already have in his stable.

I think maybe he was playing more to non-political, left of center people. He mentioned breaking promises by not closing Gitmo in addition to Afghanistan. I think he covered some places that aren't' normally covered and may bring in a few votes.

Overall I thought pretty effective...

He also stated that it was not a good idea to close Gitmo, given what we’ve put into it.

“Overall I thought pretty effective...”

Agreed!

Disagree.

Romney speech was its own thing, and it was a thing of beauty. Extremely moving.

Clint’s there to take the flak and to show Hollywood that backing losers is no way to run a business.

Hollywood is becoming less and less relevant, but its a major industry out west, and he’s a player in it.

>>You all can love it, like it, hate it. It does not matter because all we are doing today is talking about Clint Eastwood. He TOTALLY took the air out of Romney’s speech and anything else Romney.

Really?? I guess if you started out with a dislike of Romney, then what you say is true. But Clint’s conversation with President “Empty Chair” got a message out that all the polite politicians could not risk. IMO, it did not detract from Romney at all.

The ‘RATS lost a bunch of “progressive” commie libs last night. Heads were exploding everywhere. Clint got the exact reaction he was hoping for. LOL!

Clint Eastwood said exactly what needed to be said about Obama, the incompetent Biden and the worthless democratic party. The politicians were scared to tell the truth.

I can understand democrats panning Eastwood. He didn’t endorse the annointed one. If Eastwood were a liberal the Chris Matthews of the world would still be telling us now great Eastwood was.

Any republican that panned Eastwood needs their head
examined. This 82 year old American legend didn’t have to travel all the way from California to endorse Romney. But he did.

So once again, Eastwood was great and anyone that says otherwise obviously were not watching the same skit that I was.

You are projecting your fantasies as facts.

The FACT is Obama got mercilessly mocked, deal with it.

Well again, I don’t see hysterics unless you mean hysterical laughter. And for what it’s worth, I’m actually perfectly happy to have Romney as the nominee.

Geraldo now complaining that Eastwood looked like a drunk who stumbled in from Joe’s tavern and should be ashamed for mocking the President of the US.

Doug,
I am not sure what is happening to you but you are definitely not the person you used to be when giving information about Hillary and ensuring we were provided all the negative Hillary information needed. I don’t know if you are just sad about how the United States is going, but between Akin and Eastwood, you seem to be very different than you used to be. You and I have discussed many interests over the year and you never were nasty before.

I am not THEIR servant. They are supposed to be my servants, your servants, and the servants of all U.S. Citizens. I don't care what they think. What matters is what WE think and what WE do about it. When WE decide the planks and platform must accomplish at the bare minimum specified compliance with the Constitution and other policies, THEY can either comply with OUR decisions or expect US to let them go for our employment. It begins when WE reach a consensus to require compliance of the existing political party or parties, otherwise we can embark on demonstrating the leadership needed to transfer the majority of support to a party ready, willing, and able to implement the required political planks and platform. The Republican Party arose from the people who found the Whigs and other political parties unresponsive to their demands. The current Republican Party leadership is inviting a comparable exodus of its support by its deliberate disenfranchisement of its supporters.

Of course they are public servants, thats not the point. Its a numbers game, they want to get elected and they’ll do whatever it takes to get the votes. If you aren’t going to vote then they’ll pay attention to someone who does.

I have been called a sellout. I have been called a Democrat plant. I have been accused of being here from the DU. I have been called a liar. You are right, I don’t like what is happening to my country. One particular despicable person on this site has made claims I gave money to Romney and am a RomneyBOT. Jim will no longer let me respond to the lunatic. Romney was next to last on my list, just ahead of Ron Paul, whom I don’t believe would defend the country.

I saw the ignore button yesterday and thought it was cute. If you took it personally, I am sorry. I should have just given my opinion that Eastwood did not take the wind out of Romney’s sails.

This Catholic is not afraid of a Mormon president. He does not threaten my faith. But the hate I have seen on FR this political season is like nothing I have ever before seen. It is tearing us apart.

Until the end, I kept hoping that Santorum could stop him, just as I hoped Bachmann and Newt could have done. Newt is the smartest guy in the room and would have made a great president.

I don’t have to vote for Romney because I am in California. I may or may not. In a toss up state I would have no choice. Yes, ANYBODY BUT OBAMA. Obama is a committed Marxist, who did not grow up here, has disdain for the Constitution, and will collapse our economy if he gets a second term. And yet, I hear FReepers say there is no difference between Obama and Romney. That is insane.

Akin pissed me off because a pro-life conservative will beat McCasKILL, but not him.

Sorry for the IGNORE button. :)

You are disregarding the fact that it is a two way street. If they won’t do the job we want them to do, we’ll hire someone who will. Presently, we have too many people willing to compromise the U.S. Constitution and their own sovereignty into oblivion in the mistaken assumption and belief that we cannot create a third viable choice. So long as the majority of people lack the vision and the will to exert their personal leadership, a very small minority will succeed in hijacking the slavish support of the dissenting majority.

During and after the Second World War, it was often asked how the German people could possibly have allowed the monstrous NAZI regime to seize power and stay in power in Germany? The same question has sometimes been asked about the murderous Communist regimes. We are now witnessing the answers to those questoins now. Too many citizens are acquiescing to a very small minority and compromise their human rights and political rights away in exchange for an illusory promise.

The 2012 Republican Convention was a lost opportunity to bring reality to the GOP leadership. Instead, the GOP leadership is being confirmed in their belief that the citizens are too divided and inept to organize without the GOP leadership to give them directions and fiscal support. Our pioneer ancestors created and maintained a new and unprecedented reality. Their descendants are losing the will and the perseverance needed to sustain the Constitution and the new reality it established. Every reality begins with a small number of pioneers, before they can become the new majority.

” If they won’t do the job we want them to do, we’ll hire someone who will.”

You’re forgetting that you’re in the minority. You’re not going to hire anyone especially if you don’t vote. Other people who do vote will certainly get what they want though.
