The start of football season prompted me to visit several sports websites to get an idea of how the putative “experts”expect my favorite college and NFL teams to fare this year.
(Not particularly well).
What struck me is that almost every one of the sites I visited has some sort of photo gallery of cheerleaders, often ranking them not on how well the squads perform their sideline routines, but how “hot” they are.
If that is what cheerleading has come to for many, if not most, male football fans – ogling the young women between plays on the gridiron field – that raises the question:
Can a young woman be, at once, a faithful Christian and a cheerleader?
Ariann Denison believes so.
She was a Miami Dolphins cheerleader from 2005 to 2009, before becoming the squad’s choreographer. She also owns a dance studio that not only offers classes in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and “pro cheer,” but also a liturgical class that combines dance with Christian music.
Ariann says that her background as an NFL cheerleader and choregrapher, and her position as owner of a successful dance studio, has given her the opportunity to share the Gospel with young women who may think that cheerleading and following the Lord are mutually exclusive.
“My testimony shocks them,” she told The Good News, a Christian newspaper. “I tell the older girls that I didn’t have my first drink until I was 25. I never went to a club in college. And I kept myself pure until marriage.”
And like the dance students taking Ariann’s “pro cheer” class, there are many young women throughout the country who aspire to be cheerleaders at the high school, college or even professional level, but who refuse to compromise their Christian values.
Indeed, there are more than 500 Christian cheerleading camps and clinics around the country. The girls that attend the camps learn all the yells, the stunts, the acrobatics, the dances that are taught at secular camps.
The difference is that Christian cheerleaders are not about wearing skimpy costumes and performing bump-and-grind dance moves that are more appropriate at a strip club than on a football sideline.
Christian cheerleaders, as Ariann Denison attests, are not offended by male sports fans who think them “hot.” But those young women know they are set apart not by what can be seen on the outside by their male admirers, but what God can see on the inside.
Are they good Christian girls?
Very nice. They aren’t dancing like the pole-dancing girls.
Are you going to send them to college to learn that part? Plus, should the goal be to become professional cheerleaders?
Finally, they should let cheerleaders do the job of cheering on the team and call themselves something else: dancers or some other name. Because, they are not leading cheers for the team, they are taking advantage of the boys.

I never yelled at you. As for expressing your opinion, well your opinion only involves your personal experience, others have different ones, yet you chose to use yours as the all inclusive of all cheerleaders at the HS level.
Remember - I was responding to your comment about High School - not college or pro - just HS.
Narrow minded and judgmental are not terribly pleasant ways to go through life.
Well...my cousin is a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader was raised by Christian people and is a very decent young lady who does not sleep around and cares for her elder kinfolks as a life commitment unasked of her btw...her and her equally stunning little sister (my aunt and uncle...dear folks)...but i am sure they have some flashy rountines...i do know their organization frowns seriously on acting slatternly
back in the 50s when my mother did her gig nobody did anything raunchy except burlesque...and Hollywood Arbuckle type shenanigans
But i do not like R&B music these days ...it is vulgar quite frequently
I prefer the Stax, Chess, Malaco and Motown of my youth...for black music

You know what? Cheerleaders...whether for a high school, college or a professional team...are gymnasts and dancers.
Had cheerleaders been those when I was in high school, I would have been one...for sure.
However, I chose to be on the dance and gymnastics teams.
It was all good...;o)

Somehow, a lot of folks have convinced themselves that it is not a sin for women to temp men with their bodies. Well, it is a sin.

Maybe, I don't know what they do in their off time.
However, that video is not near as racy as you want to portray it as being, nor is there a 'pole-dancing' element.
There are bikinis, but actually, for a bikini, they cover up quite a bit. No thongs in other words
I just don't see it as a big deal, just wish I had the body and the ability to move like that.
Sometimes, activities are just for a season and for the fun of it. Not to be a professional.
Well, nobody online knows exactly where she lives, nobody knows her full name, her pictures are in the newspapers often, she never leaves our small town alone, she’s almost 17 years old (and in this part of the world that is one year from grown), so yes, I think it’s fine.
She is also a very very smart girl and has been well coached about how dangerous it can be out there and in cyberspace. Her activities online are monitored and her phone is checked regularly. Other than keep her in a locked room she is kept as safe as she can be and still be allowed to have a life.
Pedophiles and other trash are not just online.
Thanks! It looks like a very difficult pose to me but she works on her poses until she gets them. She’s like that with everything she does. She’s a junior in HS this year and all through HS she has maintained a 4.0 GPA and she takes all advanced classes, not the regular classes. I don’t know how she manages to keep her grades at a 4.0, do gymnastics and go to all the ballgames to perform in the color guard as captain but she does.
Keep them busy with activities they love and they don’t have as much time to get in trouble. :-)
It IS a difficult pose! A forearm stand requires a very strong upper body to support the weight, a consistently strong core, from upper body down to the hip flexors, and some measure of balance. Plus a heaping spoonful of confidence!
IF and I say IF I have it by Spring, I’ll count myself very lucky to have developed that much.
Not to mention, she is a lovely girl....
