This is in Mass.? Doesn’t surprise me. Friend went in a gunshop in Mass. and said the owner was nasty and would not let him so much as touch a rifle on display without seeing his permit first.
They are headquartered here in Pittsburgh, and anyone who has ever had business dealings with them agrees, they certainly live up to their name.
Yup. Simply foolishness, though. I knew the laws in VA so I pressed the manager at Dicks pretty hard about the “behind the counter” policy. He finally admitted that it was merely an optional store policy and not required by the law, but that he enforced it for “safety’s sake.” The conversation went downhill from there.
I checked out the one in Albuquerque. There’s nothing they have I can’t get easier and cheaper elsewhere.
Regardless of the process, the Remington bulk stuff is crap.
I’ve had about 1/12 of the rounds misfire.
Federal works GREAT.
I try and buy my range ammo at Wallmart. It’s cheap if you can find it in stock. The Walmarts around here now actually limit purchases. These days the first TWO customers to the desk after the shipment arrives clean the store out of .45, .38, .357 and .40.
They always have plenty of .22 it seems.
Wal-Mart hands me my box of Federal 525 .22LR and I walk to the cashier to check out without a problem.
Federal works GREAT.
I originally bought a Remington 597 and a box of Remington Cyclone .22lr. I ran six magazine's-worth (10-round magazine) through it with six failures-to-fire. 10%. Not acceptable. I traded the 597 toward a new Ruger 10/22 and bought some Federal ammo. Went to an Appleseed event and went through an entire 550-round box of Federal with two f-t-f. I've since put nearly another box of Federal through the 10/22 and have yet to experience another f-t-f. That means two out of nearly 1,100 rounds. Good stuff, indeed.
I'm not sure if it was the Remington 597 itself or the Cyclone ammo, but after seeing several recalls of Remington ammo and some remington firearms in Guns & Ammo and other places, I'm glad I got rid of the 597 and switched to Federal.
BTTT
I bought a bunch of federal 22LR jacketed hollow point from wally world.
Put it all on a company gift card, no questions asked.
You said: “The clerk then copied my DOB, address, my LTC number, and my credit card number into a separate file”; that’s patently ridiculous! Here in Texas, at the Academy Stores, the ammo isn’t even behind a counter anymore.
Have you considered online purchases?
In Oregon you just buy it. And WTF is a LTC?
I am always puzzled why any conservative would live in MA. You might as well live in Cuba or North Korea. My philosophy in buying ammo is that I will use it to save the lives of my family or to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Which is why I never buy garbage such as Wolf, Tula or Privi. And I always buy by the case and online.
I have always found Dick’s to be, well, dicks.
Haven’t been in one in three years.
I’ll guess license to carry.
In Matthews, NC there is a big sign at a shopping center that reads: Old Navy
Dicks
“Have you considered online purchases?”
Online ammo purchases are not allowed in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts.
The second amendment is my license to carry.
Massachusetts sucks for gun owners. How about next time you find yourself in Vermont or New Hampshire, just buy a bunch of ammo for cash.
