In 2010, my weekly shopping list (for just me) cost $53.10, for some specified 17-18 items. Those same items cost $87.66 in 2011, and now in 2012, are $104.15, add'l items subtracted-out. Prior to 2011, I'd never bothered w/ coupons; now I use them all the time. (I do have an extensive 'prepping supply', and that isn't included in any of the totals.)

Hey! That looks like a conventional light bulb there buddy... Obviously you’re some kind of radical.

Not only are prices going up at the retail level, and product size or weight reduced, don’t forget the basic quality itself is also just not the same. For just one example, major branded coffees. I like the fancy stuff too, but mostly we drink whatever’s on sale, Folger’s, Maxwell House, etc. And their “classic” doesn’t taste anything at all like it did for decades.

Just a couple years ago, my average ticket at the grocery store was around $100. Today, it’s consistently over $300. All the utilities went up in September. Property taxes jumped up again. ill see in a few days how much the income went down. Have only had one pot of green beans and not a single tomato from the garden in six weeks.
