Tiger, we used to.

My junior high had a .22 range in the basement, and I’m not *that* old. Okay, I’m a little old...but not much.

Only a couple three decades ago, the NRA, JROTC, and local shooting clubs taught gun safety and marksmanship in the schools (in the Northwest).

I agree with your assertion.

Ignorance and mystery surrounding ordinary things is never positive and guns are really very ordinary things. Even for those who would decide for themselves that they have no interest in firearms the familiarity and knowledge would reduce their fear of guns while increasing respect for them. They would fare much better should they find themselves in a threatening situation involving firearms.

Education! It has amazing powers when properly applied. ;-)
