You are right of course, some can not adapt. I know I can. I have been married to a Filipina before, and I have been to to the Philippines many times. Every time I go to the Philippines, I do not want to come back to the states, as you know, I was in the Philippines last week. You are right, I met more Europeans than Americans there, but in 10 days, I met a bunch of them. It seems Cebu and Davao are over run with Americans and Europeans. I am sad for my country, it is only a shell of what it was in the past, and will not recover in my lifetime, though I sincerely hope it will, after I have gone to my eternal reward. See you there my friend and say hello to your magandang asawa, I will say hello to mine for you.
” I was in the Philippines last week.”

Have you already left? When do you return?
I knew you were in Davao in our last mail, but I did not know your schedule.
Yes, there are FReepers that refuse to see the obvious.
I might be the same if I were stuck there with no options
to run my own life.
I will also be joining AlexW and other ExPats in the RP within the next few years - hopefully before Michelle Obama is elected POTUS in 2016
I’m not abandoning my country, but my country is for the most part, abandoning me and my conservative principles.
As I approach retirement age I see things getter worse before they get better in the US
I will also be on a tropical beach enjoying a cold drink and a warm woman while living a much higher quality of life than I could in the US on my 401k and my SS, if SS remains solvent.
I am also looking into alternate ways to make an income on the internet in the meantime and sifting thru 99% of the scams to find something worthwhile that will supplement my SS income or replace it if necessary.
Maybe some of these critics are envious - IDK, but I do know that it’s going to take a generation or perhaps longer to turn things around in the US, if ever, and I won’t live long enough to see that day although I hope that I do.
Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy life overseas on a sugar-white beach while gazing at Windex-blue water during my last years on this planet, God willing.
