& unfortunately, a lot of them hate American guts.
They liked the tourist dollars I spent in Ontario province in 2004, but made clear they had no use for me, even though I was well-behaved, was sensitive to the weird business of Canadian identity, having lived on the border for 10 years, & I did not indulge in any American arrogance...
...well, my tourist dollars won't be coming back to Ontario province. Perhaps some other places, but Ontario is out.

I have been to Canada more than a dozen times in the last 20 years (only one of those to Ontario) and the only people who have been unpleasant were border agents when I drove across, and not all of them. I have encountered snooty remarks and political comments that I found offensive—but some of the most offensive were made by other Americans who happened to be up there.

Jealousy. Pure and simple.

Come to Alberta my friendly neighbor, we will treat you well, and if any Canadians start talking idiotic about Americans, we just cuff them upside the head:)
