You appear to have a stand alone player, looks as though the poster’s problem involves his use of a personal computer “(my PC is my A/V system)” as a go-between the DVD reader and the TV. imo
I can understand the OP’s frustration. I’ve had it with other stuff.
Am I the only one that does not notice a big difference between a plain DVD and a blue ray? I have a 47” Visio and a Playstation 3.
Buy yourself a stand-alone blu-ray player. No more problems.
When was your last eye checkup? If your’re not corrected to 20/25 or better, you’re not going to notice the improvement.
ps3 is the best blu-ray player, I’ve never had any trouble at all in years, it’s fast, reliable and it’s Sony heh. I actually don’t even play games on my ps3, I simply use it for blu-rays and netflix.
Huge difference I have a ps3 as well, and I can barely watch dvd anymore, blu-ray is far better.
Try a Sony. They don’t do that kind of thing.

I am soo sick and tired of Cyberlink/PowerDVD. A few years about I purchased a $600 video card because it was top of the line and was 100% bluray compatible. Worked perfectly, even though I had to update it to play new movies grumble grumble grumble!
Up until last year when they decided to stop updating the keys for my version. Now they want me to buy a new version of PowerDVD in order to play BluRay! And of course there are no free versions or discounted upgrades. They want me to shell out another $100 bucks for this new software. And the software wont run at all anymore. So I can’t play any DVD’s or Blurays using PowerDVD. I have had it with them! I wont buy their new crappy software! GGGRRRRRRRR

What he said. You can also run free PS3 media server software on your PC and stream all kinds of stuff from it to your PS3.
Are you running a HDMI cable between the two?
Many older televisions and projectors do not do HDCP and will therefore not play newer content.
There are also HD projectors an televisions that do not have an HDMI connector at all.
Hollywood should not be dictating how our players, computers and TVs are built so they can control what you do with media you purchased/licensed.
I no longer own disc players, cd or dvd, or a single disc.
My collection is all digital and all absent HDCP.
Try VLC, it is free and plays almost everything without issue.
Forcing my DVD player to run the notice on a legally purchased DVD without being able to bypass it.
The book is better.
I have an HD video camera and video editing program and make my own Blu-ray discs on my computer then watch them with a Sony Blu-ray player on my HD TV. The image is FAR superior to DVD.
You’re right, that’s exactly like the gestapo. Good catch.
The way around that is to get DVD ripper software, and use it to copy “just the movie” to your HD, eliminating the FBI warnings, previews, spam, and disk software it tries to load on your computer, etc.
Then, after you watch your movie, you just delete the files, and save the production disk in case there is any copyright argument against you.
My older Panasonic requires a broadband connection for its occasional firmware update, as I posted yesterday I had to e-mail Panasonic for a software upgrade disc, but though my house has no broadband my cellphone the Galaxy does have the optional wi fi hotspt, so after some thinking I went to Walmart and they had a more modern version BD Panasonic player with wi-fi, and it was marked down from 4100 to $70.
So I bought it yesterday, got the password thing all set up with my phone, it got its latest version, it loads much faster than the old player and has a ton of options like Netflix Youtube and such, now I can if I choose select more content online while I’m watching certain movies.
