I’ve been following the series and will evaluate their recommendations for my own situation. While the most probable events I’ve planned for are weather related and would not require evacuation/bugging out, my primary trigger are associated with the break down of civil order. This requires constant situational awareness.

This past weekend I and the wife drove our primary evac/bugout route to familiarize her with it (I’ve driven it before). Made for a nice day drive which we took the opportunity to stop by an ARRL club field day site. Physical recon of escape routes is a must as well as planning in advance to avoid the obvious main roads that will double as a parking lot if the SHTF. My main route has three variants if there are other traffic issues.

During hurricanes even the backroads will be bad.
