A lot of them get “unemployment” payments, then, congress gives them retroactive pay. They get to keep any unemployment money too. Great paid vacation, I’d say. What a racket these Fed “workers” have. The average citizen who is laid-off, gets squat.
unemployment payments are deducted from the retroactive pay (if approved). The problem is not the federal employee, it is the federal government doing too many things within a system that lacks accountability. I am a furloughed NASA employee that works in an area critical to national defense and commerce... I have not, and will not, collect unemployment even though I am ‘entitled’ to do so. I proudly serve the American people and occasionally have to remind a coworker who we work for... but do tend to keep my head low under the current administration. I have kids and welcome a great downsizing of the government for their benefit (and the benefit of all)... I just happen to believe what I do is important (it does have bipartisan support in Congress across multiple administrations). But, if the time comes that NASA ceases to exist, or the specific technical area I work in is dissolved as part of a great reduction in the size of government, I will understand. I do not belong to the fed employee union for which I am eligible (do not believe federal employees should have unions). Not all federal employees are the enemy... a fair number are pretty darned conservative.

BS. Most average citizen’s are collecting vacation money for 99 weeks from unemployment. I have friends that are getting big unemployment money and could easily get another job. He has an MBA and 20 years of experience but enjoys the time with the kids and staying at home with the wife. Civilians have been a drain on our economy for YEARS!
