Flashback: TSA was training for checkpoint shooting 9 months ago

WASHINGTON, January 26, 2013 ― Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint screeners are receiving training to prepare them for the possibility of a mass shooting at one of the agency’s airport checkpoints, and those TSA personnel are being instructed to “save themselves” should a shooting occur.

It is unclear whether the TSA is conducting the reported mass shooting scenario training at airports around the nation or only at the airport where our source, a veteran of the TSA, is assigned. The TSA source claims with obvious concern that his own life, along with the lives of other unarmed TSA personnel, would be in grave danger were an airport checkpoint shooting to unfold.

The TSA screener, who claims to have recently undergone agency training during which TSA personnel were confronted with a chilling checkpoint shooting scenario, now tries to remain aware of how to get out alive were such a shooting to unfold.

“Every day when I arrive for work, I look for an escape route in case someone opens fire,” said the TSA worker. “We have been told to save ourselves.”

Does the TSA already have intelligence about a possible future checkpoint shooting?

It is unclear whether the alleged training is simply a prudent attempt by the agency to protect its own employees from every imaginable contingency. Fears are that the Department of Homeland Security has detected a threat and is already moving to prepare staff to either handle it or get out of the way.

Mass shooting drills are more common than you think for all kinds of scenarios. I am not a fan of the TSA, but it would be foolish for them to not train for one in an airport.

Our local police train for them at the mall, hospitals, schools, and large public gatherings along with fire, EMS, and host security/organization.

Breitbart.com (excerpt) CBS News now reports that the shooter is an off-duty TSA agent...

Hmmmm. I wonder if Fatherland Security will now declare The TSA a terrorist organization.

Seriously, even if armed, TSA personnel are nothing more than (annoying) rent-a-cop watchmen, and more than anything else they need to get out of the line of fire of those trained in the use of weapons in a tactical response.

I look for an escape route in case someone opens fire,” said the TSA worker. “We have been told to save ourselves.”

Nobody expects heroics from a TSA tub, believe me.

“We have been told to save ourselves.”

What do we pay these people for? Why are they so important?

Never let a crisis go to waste even if you have to stage your own crisis.

Billions of rounds of .40 cal, just sitting around in Govt. storage. You know what comes next? Fully armed TSA screeners. Can't you just hear the squeals on Capital Hill now? “More funding!”: guns, ammo, holsters, training time, ranges, more ammo!…oh, and their pensions jump from 55% of their high three earning years to 75%, ‘cause they're all gun toters now. Feel safer? Wait…almost forgot. Let's revisit that whole assault rifles in the wrong “hands” thang’ once again, shall we?

I’d rather have them saving themselves (e.g. running like hell away) than being armed and “trained” to try to shoot back at an armed intruder.

I was wondering the same thing. Is he one of Obama’s sons?

How many more “crisis training drills” are going to be linked with “real” mass shootings.

It is now almost impossible for me to not question any mass shooting.

Liars lie.....and they will keep on lying.

I saw a picture of him earlier when he was an anti-government, right-wing hater who was incensed that his privacy rights were being violated but then when he turned into an off-duty TSA Agent, he disappeared.

Weird.

Actually, it seems as if the whole story has disappeared.
