I’ve always thought that Alaska would be the first state to secede. It’s cold, isolated, it’s people are well armed and independent. It has the potential to be energy dependent if it develops refineries, and oil exports could be used to support a currency. Alaska could also play off the US by making agreements with China or Russia. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few Alaskan oilmen have already met with Russian or Chinese arms dealers.
So if China moves into Taiwan and expands its sphere of influence deep into the Pacific, perhaps Russia would get a piece of the action by making Alaska into a satellite/ally.

I'll admit, they do have a lot in common with Texans. A fierce spirit of independence and individualism marks both states.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they handed a $7 million dollar check over to Uncle Sugar and said, "bye!"

God, I hope not! That would be a strategic nightmare for everyone else in the Americas. It's bad enough that there are so many Chinese in Vancouver and Panama.
