I am not excusing Winston’s or anyone else’s behavior in participating in premarital sex, but I cannot imagine the temptations a young athlete faces today. As a group, boys have always taken what they could get from the opposite sex, and the big difference now is the standards of today’s girls. These guys don’t even have to look or ask for girls anymore; scores of beautiful young girls — just like Winston’s accuser — throw their bodies at them every day. And as her social networking posts prove, this young woman was a proud FSU “Cleat Chaser.”

the Heisman Trophy has a Moral Requirement? that’s news to me.

I have always thought the top award in college football had a moral requirement. Am I alone here?

While you may be shocked at Winston and Casher’s activities, sadly, this is not out of the norm. This is accepted behavior. If you want to change that, you have to change the education system.

I don’t accept it as normal to have your roommate filming you railing some jock sniffer and I find the fact that the roommate was begging to go next disturbing. Is this normal?

Welcome to how Relationships in the 21st Century operate. It’s sad, but it is what it is.

If this is true, I am over the hill because I don’t find this normal. I will continue to work to make sure my daughters recognize their worth. I suppose that’s all you can do (and pray), but it’s sad.

I don’t disagree that this did not appear to be rape, but it seemed quite avoidable to me by more moral behavior or at least practicing monogamy where your roommate knew you valued your girlfriend enough that he should not ask for second turn or film it.

The behavior contained in the report was not fitting for the highest award in college football. The guy is an incredibly talented athlete and the responses to this are fascinating and say much about our society. If he sees nothing wrong with this, the odds are good that he will end up like so many other athletes with child support going to multiple women as an absentee sperm donor.

Wasn’t she underage at the time? I thought I heard that on the TV.

If so that is all that matters. He is guilty as she can’t give consent.

If it was done without the consent of the individuals then yes. According to the report, she told him to get out, so he did.

However, given that its clear the accuser had been drinking and she is only 19, and the alcohol was probably still on her breath when she was interviewed by police and at the hospital, what about charging her and her friends with that?

No, she was 18, just about to turn 19.

If I was under consideration for an award, promotion, etc. that was predicated not only on my performance, but on character and integrity, I can assure you I would go out of my way to avoid situations where such accusations could be made. In the event such accusations were made, and there was such a brouhaha, I would decline that award/promotion. Some things are simply bigger than ourselves

Do you realize that this incident occurred over a year ago, on December 7, 2012? At that time, Jameis Winston had been at FSU for only four months and had not even played a down for the football team. The wide-eyed freshman was easy pickings for experienced Cleat Chasers like the virtuous lass from Tampa.

Oh,

and here’s one other interesting tidbit. Remember all the height deviations the victim gave. First 5”7-5”9? Well guess what height Jamal Roberts is? That’s right, she gave the physical description of him to police the night at the hospital and later that day.

Winston is 6”5.She knew what she was doing when she tried to throw police off.

It was a long time ago. What difference does it make?

I've heard that defense somewhere before...

Sure, all of the above.

I only brought up the recording stuff because of the whole recording issue at Rutgers a few years ago.

When there’s that much evidence, it should have been presented to a grand jury.

It will be interesting to see what comes out in court if the victim files civil charges. The statement her lawyers made Friday makes that sound possible.

You said "If I was under consideration for an award, promotion, etc. that was predicated not only on my performance, but on character and integrity, I can assure you I would go out of my way to avoid situations where such accusations could be made." Last December, Jameis Winston was just another promising redshirt freshman who hadn't yet played a down and wasn't under consideration for anything. He gave in to the advances of a beautiful young girl who regarded "hookups" with athletes as sport.

And this December, when he was under consideration for the Heisman, the controversy about a possible cover up, the DA's delayed decision, whether or not he was going to be charged, etc. were simultaneously being discussed in the headlines.

Winston could have easily said, "Look, there are a lot of headlines and bad publicity that are going to be tied to college football's highest award by virtue of these unsubstantiated charges. In deference to past award winners, and out of my respect for the dignity of the aware, please withdraw my name from consideration this year."

Except that would have taken class.
