Seems like opportunities and challenges galore to bring that company into the 20th century. After completing that, you could start on the 21st century upgrades.

I don't doubt your experience, but Hyudai-Kia has always marketed Hyudai as the higher-end car. Take that quote from Automotive Reports, combine it with this from this 2013 Forbes article:

Of the two Korean brands, Hyundai has been more upscale. Hyundai offers the Genesus [(base price $35,200)] and Equus [(base price $61,000)] luxury cars, which Kia's tops out with the new Kia Cadenza - the Kia version of the Hyundai Azera. Kia's image is more affordable, youthful, and a little sporty.

Hyundai offers five models higher on the luxury scale than the Cadenza, topping out with the Equus.

Kia may now compete, or even exceed, Hyundai at the lower end or even lower middle, but Hyudai is considered Hyundai-Kia's upscale brand.

Should be “Hyundai” instead of “Hyudai” throughout.

We love our `06 Mazda 3,problem free with 78K miles.

We bought ours as a cash car, '05 with 111K miles last March. We are really enjoying it. It really eats up the road when we travel. We will look closely at Mazda when we get our next new car. We are holding off on car payments until we get the last kid out of college!

There was a small group of us managers who did everything we could to effect changes, but ultimately they didn’t want to spend the money. Young managers don’t want to work for companies like that and all managers they’ve hired from outside the company in the last 4 years have quit already.

It was a private company run by a family. The VP was the only person at corporate from outside the family. He was very forward thinking, but eventually came to the realization that even he would not be able to change anything.

While I was there, two of the three top grossing stores lost at least 50% of their volume, with one store losing 70%. The competition started to aggressively price match, which was our company’s only market advantage, and it was devastating since they had the tools and systems to provide faster and more reliable service.

The owner, who only showed up to the office for quarterly meetings, kicked his brother, the President, out of the big office and is now there 4 days a week. With the slip in sales and the inability to hold on to managers, I think he’s feeling the heat.
