I’d like to see statistics compiled that compare clergy to school teachers.
And I'd like to compare the policies and procedures that exist in the Church today to prevent such evil in the future ... versus what 'changes' have been made in the government school system to prevent it and root it out.
Not if you're president of the NEA or AFT. Having worked in NYC Catholic and public schools I actually knew a priest who was discovered, defrocked and convicted of sexual child abuse. I also knew a NYC junior hs principal who was a serial abuser of Asian adolescents and who vacationed in Thailand who was never outed and whose only punishment was being told he could not apply to become district superintendent or he'd be outed. He simply retired with full pension. In the same school I also was aware of two male teachers who had sexual relationships with 14 year old girls. So I agree with the gist of the article that as bad as the goings on in the Church have been they have been revealed and dealt with to a greater extent than what has been going on in American public schools.
What do religious church leaders have to do with the countless millions of us who teach school at some point?
