So he wasn't fired because of threats. He was fired a day after being placed on administrative leave because his actions were criminal, if I'm deciphering Sheriff Traylor's attempt to talk his way around making such an admission.

Yea, tough to get past the shield of protection. The Mayor is where the first
head needs to roll. Mayors are ultimately responsible but we never hear about them.
