SEIU: Statement from the Media Matters Organizing Committe:

Media Matters employees often write in defense of organized labor, and our work has demonstrated the virtues of organizing through card-check and the perils of being forced through a protracted NLRB election process. It is fitting, then, that we’ve chosen to unionize and attempt to lead our own lives by the principles we regularly advocate for in our work.

The actions of Media Matters executives have placed employees in the impossible position of continuing to produce content espousing pro-labor values for an employer who is challenging our right to unionize. Not only is management subjecting Media Matters employees to arduous NLRB procedures, the actions of their attorneys indicate Media Matters executives object so tenaciously to our union that they appear willing to prevent employees from ever having the opportunity to vote on the matter.

Many Media Matters employees feel betrayed by the unexpected and unexplained path our leadership has taken in response to our efforts to unionize. Our desire to organize should be not a controversial or surprising turn of events at a progressive organization like Media Matters for America. We continue to hold out hope that our executives will change course in favor of the path the organization has long advocated.

-Media Matters Organizing Committee

Few things give me more pleasure than watching a useful idiot come to the stunned realization that they were used.

Brings a tear to my eye really.

Nothing more entertaining than watching liberal values collide and the liberals try to out-idiot each other.

” to produce content espousing pro-labor values”
Can a non-profit do that?

Relying on tax returns and websites of wealthy U.S. foundations, a Daily Caller investigation has revealed the sources of more than $28.8 million in funding collected by the liberal Media Matters for America since 2003, the year before its formal incorporation. That sum represents 54 percent of every dollar the organization has raised in its history, making Media Matters a principally foundation-driven — not citizen-supported — activist group.

The list of Media Matters’ foundation funders, 120 in all, reads like a Who’s Who of the American progressive movement, including the far-left Tides Foundation ($4,384,702), George Soros’ Open Society Institutes ($1,075,000), the Ford Foundation ($966,466), the Sandler Foundation ($400,000) — endowed by subprime mortgage lenders Herb and Marion Sandler, who once bankrolled the embattled ACORN organization — and the Schumann Fund for Media and Democracy ($600,000), managed by longtime PBS host Bill Moyers and his son.

They also include the anti-George W. Bush organization MoveOn.org ($50,000), the Barbra Streisand Foundation ($85,000), the kids’ shoes-powered Stride Rite Charitable Foundation ($25,000), the Lear Family Foundation ($55,000) — endowed by the TV producer and People for the American Way founder Norman Lear — and the Joyce Foundation ($400,000), whose board of directors included Barack Obama from 1994 to 2002.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/17/left-wing-foundations-lavish-millions-on-media-matters/#ixzz30J4aIhoy

(RELATED: See the list of Media Matters’ foundation donors)

The Joyce Foundation grant, made in 2010, was earmarked for ”a gun and public safety issue initiative.” That program, judging from the ensuing Media Matters coverage, included scathing reports on the shooting-sports lobby and on the firearms industry’s annual convention. “To lure repeat buyers,” that story warned, “increased lethality has become the nicotine of the firearms industry.”

2010 was also, TheDC reported Monday, the year when Media Matters founder David Brock’s personal assistant was carrying a holstered and concealed Glock handgun when he accompanied Brock to events.

The Daily Caller is publishing spreadsheets describing all the grants to Media Matters it has identified, how much each donor contributed overall, and for what purpose, if any, their donations were earmarked. Most grants were described in foundations’ tax returns as “general support” contributions.

TheDC reported Thursday that the ARCA Foundation, a Democratic-aligned philanthropy, made a $50,000 grant to Media Matters in 2006 for the specific purpose of “fact checking” religious broadcasters. ARCA also gave Media Matters $100,000 in startup funding two years earlier. But in the larger context of the $53.4 million the organization has raised since 2003, $150,000 is a drop in the proverbial bucket.

Non-profit organizations like Media Matters are permitted to keep their sources of support secret, but grantmaking foundations are required to disclose how much they give away each year, and to whom. According to the Foundation Center, U.S. foundations distributed more than $45.7 billion in 2009. Their publicly available tax returns make it possible to reconstruct non-profit grant recipients’ once-secret incomes to a great degree.

Media Matters for America Treasurer among Who’s Who on George Soros Democracy Alliance
By Judi McLeod Monday, January 14, 2008

David BrockWith David Brock getting the lion’s share of the attention as the benighted “King of Switcheroo” over at Media Matters for America, who pays any attention to members of his board of directors?

Guess that’s how most folk missed that Media Matter’s Treasurer, Rachel Pritzker Hunter is among the Who’s Who in the George Soros $100 million clearing house known as the Democracy Alliance (DA).

“Rachel Pritzker Hunter of the Hyatt Hotel Pritzkers was a DA board member after the group was created.” (Matthew Vadum James Dellinger, Capital Research Center, Canada Free Press, Jan. 10, 2008).

Missing Rachel’s membership in Democracy Alliance, which funds groups like Media Matters is a natural with hatchet man David Brock going after anything right of center out on the hustings.

Shell-shocked by their stinging defeat only three years ago, Soros and other wealthy liberals aimed to fund a political comeback. They created a permanent political infrastructure of non-profits, think tanks, media outlets, leadership schools, and activist groups, or what Vadum and Dellinger describe as a kind of “vast left wing conspiracy” to compete with the conservative movement.

A founding DA member, Pritzker Hunter, a nutritionist claiming expertise in sensitivity to foods by profession, is a generous donor to Democrat candidates and politicians.

According to documents filed by the Federal Election Commission, Pritzker Hunter gave $500 to Ohio Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown in August of 2006.
In 2004, Pritzker Hunter gave $1,000 to Howard Dean’s campaign, $500 to Senator John Kerry and $500 to Democrat Presidential nominee Wesley Clark.

Some journalists might categorize Media Matter’s treasurer’s DA membership as a classic conflict of interest on the board of a media monitor organization perpetually on the hunt for “conservative misinformation”, but Media Matters Pooh-bahs only recognize Republican conflicts of interest.

There may have been a method in the madness that allowed someone as blatantly controversial as David Brock at the helm of Media Matters.

The USS David Brock keeps changing course.

David Brock never retired from the hitman game

By Jon Cassidy | Watchdog.org

David Brock is an incorrigible liar.

He is possibly the least honest man ever to succeed in American journalism.

The misdemeanors of fabulists such as Jayson Blair and Stephen Glass had little significance beyond embarrassing some editors, but Brock helped wreck a presidency with his Troopergate reporting.

Brock has apologized for that and for trashing Anita Hill and threatening to smear the source of a particularly damning anecdote about Clarence Thomas.

Yet this admitted liar has somehow resuscitated his career, as an arbiter of honest journalism no less.

The thing is: Brock never changed. He’s still a hit man, just for the other team. He was on MSNBC just the other night calling Fox News chairman Roger Ailes a racist, based on a 45-year-old quote he had ripped from context (which we’ll revisit).

Ailes had used “the N-word prepping Richard Nixon for a public appearance,” Brock charged inaccurately, before rushing on to list more random and spurious evidence against him.

The vicious and unsupported personal attack was striking coming from Brock. Here is a man whose acceptance in the mainstream media is due entirely to his story of repentance and conversion, yet his sins are so odious that one has to think not that he’s a backslider, but that he never saw the light at all.

From 1997 to 2002, Brock wrote several drafts of his conversion story. From “Confessions of a Right-Wing Hit Man,” published in Esquire, to the final, book-length version, “Blinded by the Right: The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative,” Brock developed a narrative aimed at ingratiating himself with the left.

It worked. In The New Yorker, Hendrik Hertzberg vouched for the conversion from hit man to respectable Democrat.

“What drove Brock was the wrongness of what he did, not of what he thought,” Hertzberg wrote. It’s “the story of a change of heart, not of mind.”

Hertzberg, like many, didn’t look too closely at the details of the story. In “Confessions,” Brock was still insisting he’d told the truth. In “Blinded,” he elides lie after lie, lies the reader wouldn’t recognize without close knowledge of the Thomas confirmation affair.

BREAKING: Media Matters Chief David Brock Admits to Working with Media Outlets on Stories (Video)

The Gateway Pundit | 4/27/14 | Kristinn Taylor and Jim Hoft

Last Sunday former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson told CNN’s Reliable Sources that far left Media Matters helped produce news reports for CBS News.

They used to work with me on stories and tried to help me produce my stories, and at some point –“

Attkisson also said CBS blocked several of her reports.

David Brock, chairman of the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt group Media Matters for America and self-described “Democratic political activist”, did not deny the allegations today. Instead, Brock admitted on Reliable Sources that Media Matters works with liberal media outlets to develop news stories.

“We do work with reporters. We’re a media watchdog group. I have no reason to doubt that.”
