My late uncle served in England during WWII. While on a weekend pass, he read a sign above the bar in a pub in London that read:

NOTICE: This bar will remain OPEN during AIR RAIDS.
HOWEVER, in the event of a DIRECT HIT, will close IMMEDIATELY!

It left such an impression on him that, years later when he was a homeowner, he had a calligrapher make an exact duplicate that he hung above his basement bar.
