Howya, Undead peoples! When the little boys showed up for breakfast, I asked them if they wanted to go to the town parade, and some said yes. So I looked up the schedule on the town website (isn’t that convenient?) and found that festivities started at 9:30 with flag-raising.

Thinking of parking, we decided to get there at the beginning, and were, indeed, able to park right by the sheriff substation, about 50 yards from the center of events. The VFW and American Legion raised the flag. A white-haired gent in a Coast Guard cap sang the National Anthem. The mayor gave a brief speech about how fortunate we all are to live here, and how much we owe to our veterans, living and dead. Then he read a proclamation honoring World War II veterans and presented copies to the two vets who were present.

The pastor of First Baptist Church was proclaimed Parade Grand Marshal. He gave a fine prayer, not too long. At 10:00, there was a watermelon-eating contest. Frank and Vlad participated and got covered in watermelon. They each got to keep their slice of watermelon. Don’t know who won, but it wasn’t us.

Bill put up his phone finally and wandered around looking stylish. Kathleen jumped in the inflatable jump-thing. We bought some snacks from the Boy Scouts. The parade started at 11:30 ... police, fire department, local businesses, churches, a few Republican politicians, etc. A riding school brought out about a dozen horses, very amusing for children. Candy was tossed. Kathleen got the bounce-house mostly to herself during the parade. Bill watched her.

Then we came home and had lunch, put some kids to bed, and then DP and I went to the gym. I was really too tired for the gym, but I won’t want to go tomorrow afternoon after working at the Missionaries of the Poor, either.

That sounds so much more fun than MY day. Busdaddy woke me around 0500 and said it was time to go for a walk. When he was in the army, we only walked/jogged half an hour. This morning, even with all the moisture in the air, we walked uphill for a mile, which took 35 minutes, but only 25 on the way home. He kept going for another 10 minutes, but I was done, as I didn’t have a breathing treatment before I left.

I got a blister on my toe, probably from my sock seam. And the heat and humidity have increased, so a storm can’t be far behind.

I changed my Netflix subscription to DVDs again, as I just don’t think to go through all the steps it takes to get the right beeber doing the right thing with the right electronic item. It’s overcast, too, and if I weren’t in the middle of watching a western with Robert Duval, I’d go to bed.

It’s a VERY quiet 4th of July in Hooterville Junction. I will be dead to the world when the fireworks start. Some folks drag chairs to the sidewalk by the street and watch them in the valley, but that’s too much like work! LOL!

Your day sounds like it was so very much fun! Will any of the younger children hang out for fireworks? How is Bill’s infection? Did he take all his meds for it? I hope. When will Tom be home? And Elin?

I was thinking earlier how much fun the 4th of July was when I was a kid. The smaller cities pulled out all the stops and joined our town for a HUGH parade and all kinds of fun.

And we are in the middle of a monstrous downpour! I still have tubs and crates against the fence, but it looks like I will have to move them farther away from it so they are under the roof.

What a lovely day you all had. That’s the America I know and love.

Your mention of the two WWII vets makes me tear up. I so dread the day when the news announces the last one has left us.

Wish we had a town website, but we’re too tiny, LOL.
