I bought a double edge razor like that a while ago. Best shave I’ve ever had. Yes, there was some up front cost for the razor (Merkur 34-c HD) but the razors are only pennies apiece. Also got a shave brush and Proraso shave soap. Top off with some real bay rum after shave. I actually enjoy my shave now!

Best shave I’ve ever had

Ditto that...

I have a very heavy beard...

My five o'clock shadow has a five o'clock shadow...

I really hated shaving every morning because even the best disposable razor really didn't work that well...

I was really shocked how close and clean shaven I got when I used a double edge razor with the shaving soap...

No more getting shaving cream on my hands, the shaving soap really is different than shaving cream in getting the beard softened up...

Like you, I left the "cartridge" behind for a DE razor.

My initial investment ($17) got me a Feathers razor & blade set - absolutely amazing and closer than all of the cartridges.

Then I bought a Edwin Jagger long "ivory" and, with Feathers blades, is the ultimate. btw, Feathers are the sharpest and HIGHLY recommended!
