Solstice went to the Rainbow Bridge

Posted on 06/28/2014 1:51:20 PM PDT by 1_Rain_Drop

"My name is Solstice and I am 7 days and three hours pain free."

Solstice was a Majestic German Shepherd. He was mellow and just loved every one and every creature except for chickens. They scared the life out of him. I'd try to console him by telling him he ate their unborn chicks. He'd roll his eyes at me. Solstice loved to talk. He was always whining. I never stopped him from doing that because I knew that one day he will stop and I will miss hearing his voice. He loved his planet dog tennis ball. He was always chomping away at it. It made the most irritating sucking sound to a human but must have been music to his ears. Solstice was also very smart. He listened to Mark Levin

Solstice shared the last fve years of his life with me. He was a rescue. Lyme disease then Degenerative Mylopathy tormented him later in life. Despite all that he was always smiling. His last meal was a chocolate cake. He devoured it

I miss him. I miss sharing food with him. I miss his smile. I miss his whining. I miss looking for him camouflaged in some bushes. I miss his facial expressions. I miss giving him hugs. He was such a good boy.

The day I realized he was sniffing near the Rainbow bridge, panicked me. It was too soon.

I hope he was happy with me. I love him so much. He was a very good friend. I hope I did well by him.

The day I realized he was sniffing near the Rainbow bridge, panicked me. It was too soon.

I had that moment with my cat, Rocket. He had chronic renal failure. He was crazy about raw hamburger,
and the day I offered him his usual serving, and he sniffed it and walked away, I knew he didn't have long.

I hope he was happy with me. I love him so much. He was a very good friend. I hope I did well by him.

Of course he was happy. They know when you love them, and they love you back. A better friend Solstice
could not have had, and you did well by him until the end.

You were his brave protector, and he was yours. May you meet him at the Rainbow Bridge, and please say
"Hi" to me and my Rocket when you get there.

Take comfort: you will see each other again. I can promise that animals do have an afterlife.

July 12 will be 7 years since my Timber passed away...the hole left never gets filled, but the ragged edges do get worn smooth with time...

We will see our furry friends again. Of that, I am convinced.

I feel for your loss, I know what it is like. In recent years, I had a few cats cross over as well as losing my mother a week before last Thanksgiving (2013).

Solstice was an eye opener for me. A long time ago I was told to only adopt a dog when it is a puppy. Solstice was nine years old when he entered my life. He surprised me many times with his intelligence and sure made me laugh with his antics. He had so much “play” in him.

They know they’ve gotten a second chance. Dogs raised from puppies you know so well and they you, but a rescue tries so hard, it’s almost heartbreaking and you overlook or get accustomed to behaviors that came with them because they want so badly to belong.

"RIP to your good friend and may you look back with fondness to every moment you had spent with him. He chose YOU to do that with him."

Thank you.

Many times I'd look at him and wonder, how did I become so lucky as to be his owner. He was very special. If he chose me, then I am truly honored.

God blessed him with someone who would love him all his days left, and you did that.

You will see him again, not just in the other life across the Veil, but if you ask Father will let your beloved companion let you know he’s not far away.

When one of mine passed, I missed him so much I thought I’d go nuts. One night I was sitting at the table, and I felt his paw on my leg, looked down and there he was, smiling at me.

Every once in awhile I see him, or one of the many others who’ve passed on over the years, and I know that the Veil grows thinner every day. Soon, I won’t just catch them out of the corner of my eye, I’ll be covered in dog, cat, and horse kisses, and I’ll know I’m finally home.

Blessya for giving Solstice five years of wonderful life, for such I am certain.

Thank you for your simple, heartfelt tribute. In that way, you share him with those of us who never met him. Meeting a good dog is always a pleasure. :o)

You are very welcome.

I know what you are going through now.

2 years ago I lost a 17 year old Schnauzer/Russell mix who was with me for 15 years. There was a lot of life lived there.

I’m sorry about your poodle. It is a hard decision and act.

Solstice and I were at his favorite spot in the yard. I read to him the poem by Francis of Assisi. I was laying beside him and hugging him when the vet gave the injection.

I was worried that Solstice thought that I was sending him away to another home because I didn’t want him anymore. I told him about his new body and of all the friends he will meet from my clan and then there were those friends he made with his previous owner. He will see them all again. Most of all I stressed that he will be able to run freely and painlessly again.

God bless. My fondest memories of my blue heeler are the softness of his muzzle, and him licking my face when I slept through the alarm. Kind of hard to get to sleep now days.

I’ve been late to work several times lately. Miss my pup.

Thank you for posting the link about chocolate for those who did not know.

Solstice did have the vet’s approval to have a chocolate cake as a last meal.

I’m so sorry about your pup.

Without them, it’s like having to learn how to live again and be responsible for oneself.

Solstice was very good at alerting me when our dinner was ready or about to be burnt. All I had to do is watch his nose. If he sat up with his nose way up in the air, I knew I was in trouble. Dinner was burnt.

I am so sorry.

I too lost a dog to Degenerative Mylopathy.

For 18 months, I carried her 85 pound self outside to go potty and every day, I asked her, “Today, Pookie?”

Except for the very last day, she always wagged her tail, smiled and said no, she was still content.

It was hard but I’d have carried her for years without complaint, if she’s wanted.

Her sister Phoebe had passed 6 months prior and I think she decided she wanted to be with her beloved sibling/friend again.

Know that he is once again happy, healthy and is waiting for you.

How I want to believe that all of "my" cats and "my" horses will be waiting for me...so many very good friends.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear doggie. I take comfort that in the last years of his life, he was very well loved. I hope that when your heart heals up a bit, you can find another rescue to save, thus honoring the memory of Solstice.

Guess it’s time to look into a new rescue. I’m thinking lab pup. Nothing flashy, just someone to be with :o)
