Several people protested outside the Detroit Water And Sewerage Department building Thursday, saying customers are having service cut off at an alarming rate and the practice is inhumane.
Organizer David Bullock with the Change Agent Consortium says the water department is going after customers that may be as little as $150 delinquent and says the department ignores large corporations which are behind.
People always want to attack the poor why are we attacking poor people? he asked.
But when asked which large companies are behind in their payments, Bullock would only say that WWJ should research the issue.
I think you all should be standing with us, Bullock told WWJs Marie Osborne. I think you all should be demanding the same level of accountability for firms and corporations in the city of Detroit that they are levying on residential customers.
The water department states that there are about 60,000 delinquent accounts in the city of Detroit with the average arrearage about $560.
City of Detroit Water And Sewerage Department Deputy Director, Darryl Latimer, said every account corporate or private is treated the same, adding that the water department does what they can to work with those who come forward and address their hardship situation.
The majority of our customers (who) are in delinquency status, they just built a culture of ,Youre not making me pay I am not going to pay, said Latimer.
Freeloaders believe that hey ought to be given everything the need or want as a “right”.
I don’t know how much an average water bill is in Detroit, but a $560 delinquency would mean that I hadn’t paid my water bill in over a year.
I believe I read that the city will provide 2 buckets full of water for anyone who comes to get it. They are only without water if they don’t go to collect it. That would be enough to drink and to flush
Tony D’Annunzio: Give me a Coke. Hey wait a minute. That’s only 50 cents.
Danny Noonan: Yeah well Lou raised the price of Coke he’s been losing at the track.
Tony D’Annunzio: Well, I ain’t paying no 50 cents for no Coke.
Danny Noonan: Well, then you ain’t getting no Coke.
Detroit libtard interpretation of “water rights”...
Some people from Detroit have a sense of entitlement? I’m so shocked my monocle just popped out!
It seems to vary quite a lot from location to location. I lived up in the Seattle area for about 7 years, and my average monthly bill was about $250. Down here in FL, my average monthly bill is around $42. When I filled my new pool up last month, they came out here looking for a leak because they saw a huge spike in usage... that bill (the pool's around 33,000 gallons) was only about $230.
Fine, you don’t wnt to pay, no problem. However, until you do you were not providing you with water. Take a walk to thr river and fill up some buckets for flushing.
Quotes from some gangster movie? Who would know?
Yes please sign me up fo free watta too.
Really? In my mind, so is not paying your bills and trying to force the rest of us to subsidize your lazy habits. If you want to live in a civilized society, you pay your bills. If you don't, go take a crap in your back yard.
Caddyshack.
Who cares. Most big city water districts are a racket, anyways. Political patronage, big salaries, and no competition. This whole thing just makes me glad I don’t live in Detriot.
Oh, brother.
Isnt there a lake nearby they can drink, shower and shave from ?
Well, kind of. “Caddy Shack”.
Not a gangster movie. It's from Caddyshack.
All of these people are able to pay their cable TV bill.
