Each sport has their own fitness requirements.
My brother used to play small-college basketball. He would play pick-up b-ball games with soccer players, and he was surprised how quickly they got winded. Their bodies were just not conditioned for the quick start/stop of basketball. But my brother knew he couldn’t run with them at their style/pace.
Tennis players and wrestlers are 2 other athletes that I can appreciate, but they have very different fitness requirements.

Exactly. I think a lot of folks don’t realize how specialized sports are at the highest level. It’s such rare air that the vast majority of one sport wouldn’t be able to switch and have success at the highest level of another sport. It takes too long to get the skill set and all the while your body is specifically adapting to whatever you are getting it to do to be successful. While at the highschool level the best athletes commonly are among the best at multiple sports.
