Most people polled probably do not know who Eisenhower was. I also would bet that they certainly do not know he was the supreme Allied Commander in WWII.
Have you seen Waters World on O’Reilly, Jay walking on the Tonight Show or when Don Imus sends his guys out to ask people questions? There are a lot of stupid people out there.
If you had pictures of each of these Presidents and had to match their names to the photos, there are many who could not do it. That would make a good Waters World.
Ford had a long, long career in the house so he was more of a known quantity. Also, he served as VP for about a year before Nixon resigned. Last, I quite agree, Ford had one of the toughest jobs as a non-wartime president ever
Though I loved and admired Reagan, I think history may show that G.W. Bush was truly one of the great presidents. How can anyone forget how he stood atop the rubble of 9/11 with a bullhorn, declaring U.S. strength? And how he addressed the nation with firm resolve and clarity (no false “red lines in the sand”). And how he helped the nation feel safer after the worst attack ever on U.S. soil by shoring up our defenses and taking it to the enemy/
He was the right man for the right time in history and I am forever grateful for that.

I was so thankful on 9/11 that George W. Bush was president that I broke down in tears. I will never forget it.
I’m with you. In his post 9/11 speech, he also said something so poignant and unfortunately true. I forget his exact words but it was about how people will forget the horror of what happened, the patriotism would fade from their memories and the need to fight terrorism would change. It was prophetic.
