Thank you, thackney.
That's my point. "Without their express consent" of the employers is the issue. And yet, you just accept it when it is a deep pocket like the NYT.
And yet you don't accept it when the "employer" (aka content owner) is a blogger. You try to bully the blogger into posting entirely his own property when you won't bully the deep pocket to do the same.

We're talking about the policies and legal standing of Free Republic here, not individual posters.
No. There is no "bullying" involved.
The point is, the original blogger has the option to post or not to post on FR. They DO NOT have the right to use FR as an advertisement for their personal blogsite. If they feel their blog is so noteworthy that they want FReepers to know about it, then they can post it here to see what response it generates, if any at all.
Posting an excerpt from the blogsite is NOT an acceptable substitute. Rather, it is a means to use FR's userbase for personal gain, rather than the reason for FR's existence. Read JimRob's 'mission statement' for further clarity.
‘Ay, and what am I? Chopped liver? ;)
It's really a matter of establishment media vs. alternative media.
The establishment media is allowed to declare their content to be excerpted, while the alternative media is not.

It is Jim’s decision to make, and not individual posters. This is his site, and I respect that.
Not at all, in fact, I have been agreeing with your posts. :)
What's the difference between Redstate, LittleGreenFootballs, FloppingAces, etc., vs. a single person's site?

*grin* Thanks, mate.
Any time. :)
The NY Slimes, Wash ComPost,The Examiner, The New Yorker (sp?), and others are in the business of reporting news. That is their entire business model.
To that end, they employ not only reporters and reporterettes, they also employ archivists, fact-checkers, proofreaders, editors, attorneys, and printers -just to name a few.
They do not simply print someone's thoughts on some matter or other and then put it out in the public view simply to take up page space.
OK, some FReepers may differ on that account...
The point is, they are not simply printing someone's opinion. They are attempting to post actual news, and as such their business model requires such things as advertisements to support the costs of continuing their respective companies. They literally need their ad revenue to survive.
We understand this. That is why when they ask for us not to post entire articles because they need not only the ad hits but the feedback to find out what people think about their publications we try to oblige.
Bloggers have none of that. They are primarily individuals driven with a desire to have their personal opinions noted beyond their small social circle, thus they start things like blogs and websites dedicated to their own personal beliefs.
There are no proofreaders, editors, fact-checkers, or equivalent journalists there to provide some sort of brake to their impulsive inkings.
Their blogs are in actuality their personal opinions, and therefore inherently suspect.
While JimRob allows them to post here to see if they can contribute to the overall philosophy of the site, using us as a means to do little more than generate revenue for someone's personal ramblings is not a valid use of this site's resources.
Post a blog in its entirety, and we well let you know if you are on the mark or not. Think of us as editors (and proofreaders on more than one occasion) for your personal efforts in newsmaking. Show us that your thoughts are worth contemplating and we would be happy to flock to your site and enguage in discussions there.
Push an excerpt in an effort to force us to your site, and it will be seen for what it is: nothing more than a different version of the spam that most of us encounter on a daily basis.
What about Redstate, Flopping Aces? Are they blogs, just successful ones? Even Huffington Post and Daily Kos were small at one time.

I dunno about those sites, as I have not frequented them. I do know that one or two of them are definite socialist enclaves so do not bother to see if I have ever posted there.
What do they have to do with a blogger excerpting their material here? I believe I already explained the differences between a blogsite and an actual news source.
-PJ
Then your point missed the mark, as not only do I not frequent those sites, from what I gather they not only do not have the same requirements as FR, they are also not accredited news outlets.
Right, then, you lot. I should have been asleep hours ago. I’m off to catch few nods before I fall off this stool.
There are no “accredited news outlets.” There is no license needed to practice news or journalism. There is no “accreditation.”
Where are you getting this stuff from?
Excellent work. Thank you.
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I’ve found so much awesome information via this page and I’m grateful to contribute finally. To be clear, I didn’t post the whole article because I thought that was the expected protocol, like when re-posting/referencing the work of someone else in a report that I do. I didn’t want to look like I was barging in and using the site as if it’s mine. If anyone cares to guide me on the protocol or can point me to someone that can it would be much appreciated. I’d be happy to edit this to include the whole thing if that’s possible. FreeRepublic will see a lot more hits than my DontComply will (By the way, I cannot take credit for that site, I only contribute to it) As some of ya’ll pointed out, my concern in posting it here is to spread the knowledge and do my part to strengthen our counter-revolution. I was waiting to see if it would be posted to ‘news’ but after a few hours I assumed it had been denied so I tried ‘bloggers’ and it went up almost immediately. Personally I would insist that it is news, everything is verified and hotlinked where necessary. To Political Junkie: I appreciate the critique because while on location I spent the better part of 24 straight hours fact checking, proof reading, editing this and so I want it taken seriously, more seriously that the agit-prop that the NY Times spews. [oilfield location that is, I work on computers/ electronics] To Conservative Mind, thanks for looking out for the newbie. Fortunately I’m not thin skinned or quick tempered [usually] or I might have responded differently to the spirited debate. I look forward to being a contributing part of FreeRepublic.com in the future so please ya’ll critique and inform me as necessary.
