why does the administration call them ISIL but they call themselves ISIS ?
ISIS sounds more ARAB.
They call themselves The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, which implies Syria, Lebanon, Israel and parts of Jordan. Al Sham can be translated as the Levant areas. ISIS or ISIL are both acceptable. In their propaganda they refer to themselves as Daesh, which is the Arabic acronym for their name.
