The very same thing happened to me in the mid-60s. I saw a buck with his harem on the top of a rise grazing at sunrise. I looked at the peaceful scene and could not shoot. I have not been hunting since but have been fishing for food but not for sport.

Me too, yetidog. I have shot quite a few animals in my life and I don't like it. Of course, the alternative to shooting that jackrabbit or crow or coyote would be to look like a sissy, so I would shoot. Like Merle Haggard says:

I'm rough and I'm rowdy, I'm tough and I'm smart,
But I have a tender heart
