I don't know whether Obama fails to understand Islam and is deluded about it or is simply disingenuous. In either event, his statements are consistent with His deluded and disingenuous statements about many things, including America.

Obama's stated position on Islam seems consistent with that of the "moderate" Muslim debaters in the video, who argued -- with more hope for a peaceful Islam in the future than understanding of what Islam is today -- that Islam is a peaceful religion.

Whether Obama is delusional or disingenuous, or a combination of the two, probably makes little difference. His foreign and domestic policies toward Islam seem to be based on His position as He articulates it. That is the problem with which we have to deal. I wish I knew how.
