Sadly, a lot of Americans prefer the chain restaurants. We had two family-run restaurants go out of business recently in my small town. One became a chain franchisee and the other just shut its doors. They both served decent food. I don't get it.
He has “nothing against Obama” because he doesn’t want to get audited and knows that most of his wealthy liberal clientele have “nothing against Obama,” even though they’re probably secretly scared out of their wits that he’s going to seize their assets and they’re hoping to placate him with demonstrations of undying affection.

I think of Antoine’s in New Orleans, the oldest family owned restaurant in the US. It has been a while, but their creole and other dishes are superb. Nothing like the prices you cite.
Ate at Emeril’s in N.O. years ago and it was reasonable and
prices were also. Vegas.. another story. Have had some awfully expensive meals there that were also just “rather good”.
The small business aspect of the industry is being hammered as elsewhere. And Emeril is helping people notice.
