I think that given the poor medical care infrastructure in Africa, plus the generally inhospitable economic conditions and perpetual lack of quality food, the typical African population is physically stronger and more resistance to disease than the typical US population where technology saves our weaker members who readily reproduce.

The weaker members of the African population have died of other causes.

The mortality rate for Ebola among the Africans is about 50%

Mortality over here may be much higher once our healthcare systems become overwhelmed.

This is an idea based on sheer conjecture and 63 years of being taken care of by a high technology healthcare system.

I thought it was around 90%.

I'll add two thoughts:

1) We are an insanely mobile society. If a guy in Dallas has Ebola, there's a good change that it will show up in Chicago, Boston and San Francisco. There is a risk of many brush fires in diverse areas, because we are always on the move.
2) Our healthcare is very good, but very expensive. We would certainly want to care for people, and quarantine people, and sanitize locations, and the costs will just go up and up and up. That might be a big problem.
