DALLAS As a Liberian man diagnosed with Ebola was fighting to survive Sunday in a Texas hospital, his worried family members and others who were in contact with him said they are being ostracized by the local Liberian community, which is struggling to cope with fear, isolation and the stigma associated with the deadly disease.
Thomas Eric Duncan, who traveled to Dallas from Liberia more than a week ago after coming in contact with Ebola in the West African country, was in critical condition in an isolated hospital ward and fighting for his life, Tom Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Sunday.
We understand that his situation has taken a turn for the worse, he said....

Long story - short: Waltzing into that room etc. was just downright stupid-Curing stupid is just about as hard as curing Ebola.
A collision of the two just occurred in Dallas. Let's hope that doesn't spread as well.
If he gets Ebola, from being so stupid, I don't think I will shed a tear, but if he did, he could infect others too. What a stupid a$$ MOFO.
Bring a deadly virtually incureable disease into our community and your family members are ostracized? I'm shocked. SHOCKED!
Amen to that!
Sadly, the family has their “friend” from Liberia to thank for their problems. He came over knowing he had the disease and then he took no precautions to protect the victim family.
Int the name of Compassion and kindness we must prevent this kind of ostracisism and suffering from happening anymore.
So no more travel from Liberia or West Africa.

I suppose they did not get the memo, they don’t have enough for anyone anymore. They have already used it up before this guy came along.
Stigma and isolation? How’s that compare to projectile vomiting and bloody diarrhea?

No, you get Ebola in the bloodstream when your immune system kicks in (after incubation). At that point you recover quickly or you die. This man did not recover quickly, therefore he is dying. They are pumping him full of transfusions and electrolytes but that is just postponing the inevitable.
There is no miracle drug. There are various ways to slow down the virus that might work for some people. But in general your immune system lucks out and kills off the virus at the end of incubation, or the virus spreads to your blood. When that happens, the virus replicates in every blood vessel wall. There is no drug or therapy on earth that will save you at that point.
So we are spending untold millions on this one family and their lying sick relative.
Yeah...I am sure we will all get the same care and concern should it befall us.
In the meantime they are bitching about having to stay in a gated community in high end lodgings.
Sheesh.
Not so sure about 3. That's a normal route for a best cost international ticket.
Point 4 is important. If Ebola spreads throughout Dallas it may directly attributable to this initial mis-diagnosis. Also, we haven't heard if the medical workers who examined him are infected or not.
Poor babies.
Live with it.
That’s what quarantine is all about so nobody else has to die for his actions.
It’s well past time that people started facing the consequences for their actions.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
You and me both. It is disgusting.
The media is the enemy of the American people.
I think you are giving the CDC too much credit.
The title screams “stigmatizing is worse than epidemic”.
That thing on the right looks like he might be wearing lace panties.
