The Ebola outbreak has been escalating in the past few months, but could it cause a global pandemic similar to that of AIDS, as was suggested today by a top public health official?
Speaking at a meeting in Washington, D.C., today (Oct. 9), Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, compared the two diseases. "In the 30 years I've been working in public health, the only thing like this has been AIDS," Frieden said, referring to the Ebola outbreak. "And we have to work now so that this is not the world's next AIDS."
Ebola and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, have a number of similarities. Both are spread through blood and bodily fluids, both have high fatality rates, both emerged out of Africa and researchers have not developed a vaccine against either virus, said Dr. Amesh Adalja, an infectious-disease physician at the University of Pittsburgh. Liberals are hoping and praying (figuratively speaking)that Ebola will be what AIDS never was, a horrible disease for that vicious evil heterosexual population. Liberals think they are exempt because they are liberals and live in better neighborhoods.
You should have quit while you were ahead and just not typed all that.
AIDS in the Politically Correct world is far worse than Ebola could ever be because it hits mostly at the Liberals’ favorite class of darling pets without ravaging the unspeakable White Heterosexual Middle Class population.
Once Ebola hits the queer “community”....all bets are off. It’ll spread like wildfire.
That’s interesting. I wondered about that.
Ebola is more easily spread.
1) AIDS is relatively easily avoided.
2) Even if you end up with AIDS, you might live for years or decades or even perhaps your entire natural life if symptoms never manifest.
Ebola will most likely kill you before you recover from it. 70% chance of you dying, or higher, in a month.
I can do business every day and shake sweaty hands with someone who has AIDS and have little fear of contracting it. Most of us probably have several times in our lives and never knew it. If I do that with someone hot with Ebola I likely won’t be alive next month to talk about it.
</sarcasm on> Yes... of course! This STD and this killer plague are so much alike how did I ever miss the connection before?!?!? </sarcasm off>
Crack cocaine, AIDs,ebola, maggie Sanger and planned parenthood, all CIA plots to do away with negros.
I would wager far fewer Ebola victims (as a percentage) acquired the disease doing something their mother might not approve of.
Of course, it is patently racist to compare the population of Sub-Saharan Africa with a bunch of bone smugglers and needle junkies, but the guy is likely a Dem, and they get a pass on stuff like that.
Finally, they have found a cure (for AIDS)...I know, sick. /s

They are both diseases caused by unclean habits. Handling the dead, eating bush meat, sodomy.
AIDS is JV compared to Ebola...
Semen up to six months.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Some studies showed RNA in semen for prolonged periods, but I only know of one study where viable virus was found in semen after 82 days (Bausch et al, 2007). It was viable by cell culture plaque assay. Just finding RNA in semen does not mean anything, since RNA alone is not viable.
Filovirus can also be found in breast milk and the intraocular fluid (whatever the name of that stuff is called) for prolonged periods after recovery. I doubt that the intraocular fluid is much of a transmission hazard...
For that matter I don’t even know if such crippled virus particles would act as an infectious agent or more like a weakened virus (think live polio or rabies) vaccination.
I’m not willing to do the experiment...
Ebola is only infectious when the proteins are present. The RNA alone cannot cause infection, because the body destroys it immediately through the innate immune system. I am not certain that our RNA polymerases could even work on viral RNA... the virus carries its own polymerase within the viral particle.
Well, Ronald Reagan isn’t around to blame it on. So it couldn’t possibly be like AIDS.
