Check for Stevens Johnson syndrome. Prayers up that he doesn’t have it.

Sounds like shingles.

Took Navy doctors four days to figure it out. Then they told me the bad news: they couldn’t do anything about it.

I used to know someone whose daughter was hospitalized for scarlet fever.

Right here in the north SF bay area.

It was back in the late eighties

“Yes, Hand, foot & Mouth Disease was my first thought too. Our granddaughter had that and was hospitalized and very sick.”

I was thinking Roseola or Coxsackie

For all Freepers there is a growing bedbug and other wildlife infestation in this country

I bought a product called “CedarCide’ that is made from cedar oil and it cleared my house of all kinds of spiders and moths and stuff - and it makes your whole house smell great like cedar

its expensive though - almost $90 a gallon but i did my whole house with one gallon - i bought the commercial-grade fogger too

Prayers up for your sweet grandson, your daughter/family, their docs...and you. I know how tough it is going through something like this.

Keep up posted.

In the meantime, whatever you do, keep his fever down at night by placing an icepack on his head.

Keep his brain cool at all times.

Shingles, that is what I was thinking because of the waist. It attacks a nerve in that area causing intense pain. It is very rare in young children which may be why the doctors missed it.

junkie - Yikes, that Sonne’s detox is $22.50 for a 32 oz liquid form. It’s just cheapo bentonite. Tractor Supply Co. has a 20 lb bag of powdered Red Lake Earth Food Chemical Codex Grade Diatomaceous Earth with Calcium Bentonite Supplement for $9.99.

Can’t offer any ideas on what it might be but since he’s been on antibiotics, start feeding him yogurt with live cultures to get good bacteria back into his stomach which will help fight off whatever the doctors finally diagnose.

Odd. My son had shingles a few years ago. The local walk-in clinic knew what it was as soon as they saw him, even though it is unusual for a young adult to get shingles. He got a script for acyclovir and things got better right away.

It sounds like the child might have scarlet fever. I had it back in the 1950’s, but I hear that kids don’t get it much today, which is why the docs may not have recognized it.

There are a variety of post-streptoccoal immune syndromes. Check out http://www.healthline.com/health/post-streptococcal-gn#Overview1.

I had the shingles 30 years ago while in the Navy. Today I see that vaccinations for it are available and, as you stated, they can give medication for it.

When I had the shingles it was very painful. I was stationed in southern Spain, it was over a 100 degrees in August/September, and I was under a great deal of stress in a new position. The situation was uncomfortable, to say the least.

Glad to see that there today exists some treatment for it.

If someone like you thinks that I’m an idiot, then I have to take that as a compliment.

so....none of the doctors can solve it; no one in the “medical” community has a clue; I tell her something that WORKS and you go on the attack with me? Yeah....you’re an idiot.

Is there a change in anything that occurs in the afternoon but not during the rest of the day? Eating the same snack, drinking the same type of drink? Family member gone all day coming home? Alone with anyone at the same time of day (Munchausen by proxy?), around pets in the evening but not during the day? Clothing? Detergent? Soaps? Outdoor playtime?
