One of my sons had shingles believe it or not, at about 8 years old. Check this out.

Not saying it is, but the waist thing made me comment!

Thank you and thanks to all the Freepers who have replied. What a great group of caring people!

Shingles is one of the few things we hadn’t yet considered. I’ll look into it. Doctors probably don’t think of this when it’s a little kid.

The waist thing reminded me of Black deer Tick bites; causes a rash, itching, and swelling.
That depends on whether there are deer , elk, etc. in the area.
Spittle from the tick causes spriochetes to enter the body, where they remain clandestinely, sometimes for years, and then infect that part of the body where they have taken residenc.
Realtively unknown , but now recognized as a medical issue; blood tests frequently come out negatively (even though it is the issue).
Controll is doese of anti-biotics over 3-4 weeks.

Shingles, that is what I was thinking because of the waist. It attacks a nerve in that area causing intense pain. It is very rare in young children which may be why the doctors missed it.
