Glad I don’t know you.
I’m all for kid treat or treating. I don’t believe any of the holidays you listed are pagan - no matter their origin. I can’t live in a cultural vacuum. I need to know that the great western traditions reach back into an ancient past and will (I hope) continue into the distant future.
Halloween is based on the Catholic All Hallows’ Eve. We always went to church in the evening and lit candles for the dead. I was once lucky enough to do this at a very old All Hallows’ Church in London.
I’d guess that you’d be considered persona non grata in Sleepy Hollow this time of year...
” I dont believe any of the holidays you listed are pagan - no matter their origin. I cant live in a cultural vacuum. I need to know that the great western traditions reach back into an ancient past and will (I hope) continue into the distant future.”
I am not really sure what you are saying. “no matter their origin” speaks of their ancient past, yet you indicate you “need to know” their ancient past. In the same small statement it seems you say the origins both don’t matter and you need to know them.
Maybe I am off base but this statement translates to me as. “I don’t care if the origins of holidays are pagan or not, many Christians have been observing them for years and I hope they will for many more.”
If that is how you feel, that is up to you. If you claim to be a Christian you might want to consider what God thinks though.
I believe that many Christian symbols came out of very ancient rituals and symbols that were adapted by the Faith. I don’t see anything wrong with this.
I hate to break it to you, but this is the kind of drivel that makes conservatives sound like lunatics. Jon Stewart thanks you for the source material.
I think this is a case of an author trying to create a new issue to distinguish himself in some way. Liberals do it all the time. Nothing new in that.
I agree with you about candy. Horrible stuff. We let our kid play the Halloween game but then take away the candy, dole it out to him slowly and throw most of it away.
So All Hallows Eve is not Catholic?
Trying to figure out where you got this erroneous information.
Just one person’s blog. He doesn’t even mention his religion; he just brags about himself.
About This Blog
This blog is about you and your world view. Youve got a world view, and I have a world view. Everybodys got one, whether you know it or not.
Apathy is the enemy. If you dont care and dont know what you do care about, then you are probably rotting your brain in front of the TV all day.

I am on a journey like all of us. I grew up in New Hampshire, attended college there, and have worked in business and technology for over 25 years. Ive founded three companies and sold two of them (one didnt make it). Ive climbed the corporate ladder of success, serving as a business leader, CEO, and General Manager of various businesses.
Ive found that leading is serving.
Being a boss is 100% responsibility and 0% authority of position. Without leadership, there is no authority to direct others. Bosses who direct using fear and intimidation are not leaders at all, and are irresponsible to themselves, their employees, and ultimately their customers.
These days, I live in Georgia, and this blog is an extension of my world view, to help others, by planting and watering seeds of righteousness.
Whats righteousness? That means knowing what you believe before God and man, and living it out day by day. I am a friend of God, and a friend of people, and I hope to give others the same gifts and blessings Ive been so graciously given.
I have a beautiful wife and two wonderful young boys. They are my treasure.
I have the same crap in my neighborhood; because I live across a river from the Newark NJ Welfare Hatchery, the gibsmedats come over to trick-or-treat. I’m glad the kids get a chance to enjoy Halloween as we did when we were kids, but some of the baby-mamas are obnoxious. They’ll be wearing plain clothing, but if they like what the kids come back with they’ll come up the steps themselves with outstretched palms. When we used to take our children trick-or-treating (they go on their own now), we used to leave a large big bowl with a sign (”Please take one”); without fail, when we’d return a short time later (little legs don;t last long) it would be empty. One year it even had empty wrappers; someone had sat there eating the candy!
Hopefully the cold today will keep some home...I don’t want to stop participating, but by 9:00 pm I’m disgusted.
