You need to confront the fact that you just voted for something almost unimaginably horrible, the Libertarian Party platform.

You don’t seem troubled to learn that you voted for full term abortion and gay marriage and gay adoption, gay military, etc, did you already know that when you voted for it?

If you aren’t bothered by that, then perhaps the immigrations platform you just voted for will bother you.

Here is the full text of the libertarian position on immigration.

COMPLETE PLATFORM TEXT
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND CIVIL ORDER

IMMIGRATION:
“”The Issue: We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new “Berlin Wall” which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. government’s policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.

The Principle: We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age or sexual preference. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.

Solutions: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.

Transitional Action: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.””

OK, I confronted the facts you presented. But what difference did my one vote make? We already have abortion, gay marriage, gay military, and Cornyn didn't lift a finger.

I won't castigate you for voting for Cornyn. I'm just not playing that game anymore.

Good night.

I never mentioned Cornyn, but when you voted for the libertarian platform, you seem to have done it deliberately and knowing what you were voting for.

It is incomprehensible to me, that you would support that agenda.

You just joined a movement.

Thanks for the info. Seems to me like at one point there was going to be a multi-lane north/south highway all the way from the border through to Canada - I69 comes to mind? - and it was to run parallel to I-35. Part of Highway 59 south of Houston was expanded, I though for this purpose, but then we never did hear much about it or I did and have forgotten. Just too much to keep up with anymore.

I just know that Texas has wasted a whole lot of money on Strauss’ and Dewhurst’s pet projects. Even with a change in leadership with Patrick instead of Dewhurst I don’t trust any of them. Republicans may control the legislative process in Texas because there are more R’s than D’s, but that doesn’t say much because most of the R’s are either in the center or to the left in their voting behavior. Just way too squishy.

Re SWA, now that Hobby has been declared an international airport and expansion appears to be almost complete, I would suspect they have their plate full with picking up South and Central America markets. Houston to Dallas may now be small potatoes.

I think your anger is misplaced. If it bothers you that some conservatives are done with the GOProgressives, go yell at THEM for their words and deeds that have successfully alienated base voters. Frankly, I think they’ll be relieved.

That project you refer to became the Trans Texas Corridor and it was shot down by angry voters - correctly. The idea was good, the execution atrocious - unfortunately the base problem that caused the idea to be put forth still hasn’t been fixed, 35 and 45 are in poor shape, radically overcrowded and in dire need of rebuild/replacement/building alternatives to. And by alternatives, I don’t mean stupid bike paths or pointless rail lines that are black holes for tax dollars either.

So sad that the GOPe is too stupid to understand that when they hold the minority in the senate, they can at least do what Harry Reid did as minority leader: obstruct, delay, stonewall and use it as a megaphone to undermine the senate majority.

Yeah, they will have to shout louder because the media won't help them. But it can be done. Rolling over really shouldn't be an option, at least on major issues.
