A medication can't be effective if it has no dangers.
(Side-Effects Management is at the heart of Pharmacology.)
It's magical thinking to promote Weed as a cure-all with no dangers.
For more Magical Thinking about Weed, see High Times Magazine.
They should just drink 180 proof Everclear and be like normal people. After all, it’s legal and no side effects.
Guess I won’t be smokin’ any weed for my glaucoma. Bummer, dude.
And many believe it’s especially
good for folks with no medical problems at all.
Naw man, you're wrong, man! That's all wrong!
Marijuana at best provides some relief for certain symptoms but it especially when smoked is no better than cigaretts concerning health benefits.
Heck, it’ll probably even give that straw man a brain.

I asked my 20 year old sister, “Why did you quit?”
“Oh, all my friends have quit, too. We discovered we don’t even like it.”
These days, kids don’t have a chance, it’s a glamour thing.
Wrong. It is not magical thinking in that marijuana DOES provide a myriad of health benefits. Furthermore, side effects are minimal. Everything has side effects including food.
Keep legalizing it. Even Bill Buckley (who was what I like to call a “friendly acquaintance” of mine back in the day) proposed legalizing it. Probably 90% or more of my Prosecutors office wanted it legalized.
By 21, he'd long ago added alcohol to daily pot consumption so college plans "on hold;" living with two other pot heads; failure to hold regular menial jobs (mostly restaurant jobs but never waiting tables, "interfered with his 'mellow mood'"); by 29 had numerous arrests for petty crimes; in and out of jail and halfway houses; dead of lung cancer by age 40!
Yes, pot smokers DO get lung cancer.
Yes, pot is just great. If you don't believe it, ask families of drug addicts.
Has anyone with a serious audience ever claims that marijuana cures everything? has anyone like this ever claimed that marijuana cures anything? My late wife went through over 40 rounds of chemo. She found that an appetite stimulant that also served as a general analgesic was a blessing. It didn’t cure her cancer but no one expected that it would. It did allow her to keep down a meal and sleep afterwards but I’m sure someone somewhere will tell me she should have stayed up all night vomiting.
Where are the anti-smoking Nazis? Cannabis is deeply inhaled into the lungs when smoked and certainly contains some carcinogens. What about second hand pot smoke affecting people who are not smoking? If second hand tobacco smoke is filling our hospitals and killing little babies in the beds what about pot smoke?
“They should just drink 180 proof Everclear and be like normal people. After all, its legal and no side effects.”
Or the countless Big Brother approved pills that are proven physically addictive, toxic to every bodily organ and far more impairing. They turn people into disabled pill addicts for life who sit in their section 8 home and get their exorbitantly priced pills delivered at taxpayer expense. Big pharma moves entire warehouses full of heroin, speed and downers.
Can’t have anyone growing their own medicine and gotta make sure the “right” people keep getting paid with our dollars...
I find cigarettes and large amounts of coffee extremely beneficial, but will Marijuana cure toenail fungus, "low T", restless leg syndrome, male impotence, genital herpes, acid reflux, an enlarged prostate, and hay fever?
Gussy it up however you want, Trebek. What matters is does it work?
Plenty of US Citizens starting with G Washington and T Jefferson have used cannabis and did NOT become CRIMINALS!
Apparently cannabis will not make you a criminal! The LAW WILL!
"I am very glad to hear that the Gardener has saved so much of the St. foin seed, and that of the India Hemp. Make the most you can of both, by sowing them again in drills. . . Let the ground be well prepared, and the Seed (St. foin) be sown in April. The Hemp may be sown any where. " George Washington to William Pearce, 24 February 1794
I bet you'd like nothing better than to kick in good old George's door, and throw a few grenades in his window!
Drug Nazi!
Best post of the thread - this is indeed a straw-man arguement.
No one is claiming a cure for anything. Palliative treatment of adverse effects of disease yes. Cure no.
Logical fallacies are pretty much all the Naughty Vegetable Warriors have to appose re-legalization of pot.
If we are too stupid to make decisions for ourselves how is it that we are smart enough to make decisions for others? Freedom is the right to make bad decisions for ourselves; NOT to impose them on others.
Don’t forget having a substantial effect on interstate commerce.
