What I saw in the late 1990’s was that the same group of guys would come in and out with a lot of different women. The majority of guys would never leave with one. So for a given bar, you would have may five or ten guys who would be picking up women, and thirty to forty who would never be able to.

Yep. Google "hypergamy". Most women will chase the same small group of desirable men, ignoring the ones willing to marry them in favor of ones with too many options to need to commit to any one of them.

The purpose of marriage was to force women to pick one man from the set of men willing to commit to her.
