Each year as part of the Christmas season, believers traditionally read the gospel accounts from Matthew and Luke which record the events associated with the birth of Christ.

Immediately following God's primeval prophecy of the destruction of the Serpent (i.e., Satan; cf. Revelation 12:6) by the seed of the woman (i.e., Messiah; Genesis 3:15), Satan began working to thwart the fulfillment of this prophecy. Initially, he worked to prevent the coming of Messiah; when Messiah came, he worked to destroy Him; and after Messiah's death, resurrection and ascension, he worked (and continues to work) to prevent His return. Initially, Satan's work was necessarily very broad in scope, since he had little information on which to act. However, as God progressively revealed more and more information regarding the nature of Messiah's origin and coming, Satan's attack became more narrowly focused. In the following sections, a few highlights from some of Satan's activities undertaken in his attempt to thwart the plan of God and his own prophesied destruction are briefly surveyed in: 1) the Old Testament, 2) the New Testament, 3) the Church Age following the close of the canon of Scripture, and 4) the future Tribulation. As will be seen, the broad-based activities of Satan very quickly devolve into a narrow, focused persecution of Israel. The annihilation of the nation of Israel and extermination of all Jews is Satan's only hope to avert his own destruction.

Satan continues his work to destroy Israel and the Jews in the desperate hope of preventing the return of Messiah. The Word of God, however, is clear, and its promises are sure: all Israel will be saved (Romans 11:25-27), Jesus will return (Revelation 19:11-16), and Satan will be cast forever into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:10).

One more thing: I believe that Satan is trying to annihilate the Jews because if he could do so, that would make God a liar. If God could be proven to have lied to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, which of course He didn't, then why should we believe anything else He says?

By Israel I mean the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The State of Israel is part of it, but there are lots of Diaspora Jews that Satan is also trying to destroy.

I don't believe the Church has replaced Israel in God's plan. He has a plan for Israel and a plan for the Church. Of course Satan is also attacking the Church, but he has attacked Israel since God first promised a Messiah, right after man's fall from grace.

Satan is defeated and has been since Jesus said, “It is finished.”, while on the cross.

God has His timetable and nothing Satan or man can do will thwart it. Satan is thrashing about, but it’s over for him, and he knows it.

Christians need not concern themselves with him - we are to be faithful, serving Christ to the end.

God’s plan was fulfilled by the birth, ministry, Passion, death and Resurrection of our Blessed Lord. The Jews rejected His plan at the Foot of the Cross and their only hope for salvation is acceptance of Christ and Baptism. There is no more Judaism. No temple, no priesthood, no sacrifices. It’s done and has been for 2000 years.

Yes, Satan is defeated. Does he know it? I mean, really know it, accept it? I don't think so. Look at his actions in Revelation, he still thinks he can win! You and I know that he is wrong, but he still thinks he can and will win.

I agree, God has His timetable and Satan cannot change it. For Satan to accept that, he would have to acknowledge God as the ultimate Ruler and Satan is not about to do that! Again, look at what he will do in Revelation... does it look like a vanquished foe to you?

I'm sorry, but Christians do need to concern ourselves with Satan. Yes, we have read the end of the Book, we know that God wins. But until the end comes, Satan is going to continue trying to ruin God's plans. What better way to get back at God that attacking His people? Or are you saying that Peter was wrong when he warned us about Satan in 1 Peter 5:8? Why did he tell us to be sober and vigilant? Satan cannot ruin our salvation since we are in God's hand, but he can sure bring a lot of grief to our lives if you are not careful!

Yes, Satan knows he is defeated. He's not trying to win. He holds no "desperate hope of preventing the return of Messiah," nor makes any "attempt to thwart the plan of God and his own prophesied destruction," as the author of the article claims.

We know this from reading the rest of Revelation 12. For instance:

So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time."

Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. ...And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Satan was defeated when Jesus died and was raised from the dead. Upon losing this battle, "the accuser" was cast out of heaven. (See Paul's rhetorical questions in Romans 8:31-35 - "Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? ...Who is he who condemns?")

"The accuser" has indeed been defeated.

After being cast out of heaven, he was given "a short time" to do his worst against those "who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."

Was this a cause for God's chosen people to fear? It is the unfolding of His plan. And just as those who received the Revelation would know what was soon to come upon them ("things which must shortly take place", "the time is near") and could see the end of their persecution before it even began, so we too find great comfort in reading what happened and seeing that Christ avenged the blood of His saints and rewarded them with eternal glory.
