Checked bag with a TSA tag stating they had searched her bag
Some advice for Dick Vomer....
I am in no way excusing TSA of their uncaring behavior. That said, allow me to make a suggestion.
When I pack for an airline trip, I use extra large plastic zip-lock bags and put literally everything in them. The nice thing is that clothes folded in these bags, and then sitting on the bags and squeezing out all the air (sometimes even sucking remaining air out thru a straw inserted in just before final zipping) while zipping them, compresses the clothes making it possible to get a whole lot more in the suitcase and it keeps the clothes from wrinkling.
The plastic bags also prevent any spillage from cosmetics.... example, on one trip lid popped off shampoo bottle, but plastic bag contained the mess keeping it off my clothes.
When TSA riffles through, they can easily toss all the plastic bags back into the suitcase without a problem and no mess. They can see through the bags, this plus the compression convinces them there is nothing inside to worry about.
Four years ago at the airport in Tel Aviv, Israel, where they open and search thoroughly through every single bag while you watch, the agent complimented me on this way of packing. I mean the thoroughness of their search is amazing.... I had a big book in my case that I had purchased at a Coptic church in Cairo, the agent thumbed though every page in the book to make sure there was nothing hidden it. Yet he was confident enough of my compressed plastic bags to not open any of them.
