The poison might even come from within, in the form of rebellion against anonymity, the desire to belong to a group, people who want a moment of visibility and identity, or the hunger for black-and-white answers to problems that are very complex in a remarkably more complicated world.”

Got it John, ISIS terrorists are just another bunch of bitter clingers, kinda like those hicks in flyover country. Or maybe just rebellious yutes, sort of an Occupy Middle East. In Kerry's nuanced world the idea that they could really be devout Muslims who sincerely believe waging jihad is a sacred religious duty doesn't even get a mention as a possible motive.
