You could add Bermuda to the list of smug little anti-gun nations that could be successfully invaded by a relatively small force, but who’d want it?
The Chinese PLAN would sure like a base on Bermuda. These unguarded islands can be turned into fortresses almost overnight, and then the cost of retaking them goes up astronomically.
Even in the run-up to WW2, islands like Guam were taken by the Japanese at almost no cost. Retaking Guam cost 1,700 American lives, and 18,000 Japanese. And that was just one little island.
China could break out and capture dozens of islands during many war scenarios. Getting them back out would be very expensive, considering the native peoples would be held hostage.
