Hopefully in a time of greater risk the ammunition rule would be relaxed.

I hate to say it, but I predict the opposite will happen. Some nut will get hold of some Swiss reservist's rifle and do something awful. Then a new law will be passed: All weapons and their ammunition must be locked up in the local armory.

That might not be too big of a deal when, say, the Russians are on the move but still 100 miles away. But it would be very damaging to the Swiss character.

By the way, something like that recently happened to the Danish Home Guard. Some local muslim got a hold of a stolen Guard rifle, and shot up a restaurant. So the Guard was ordered to disarm (ordered to turn in the bolts to their rifles).

When I was in Denmark long ago a joke was that the Danish military should be reduced to one general with a telephone, to agree to the surrender terms of any invader.
