In addition if you travel much, a Roku Stick is great. Take your TV with you. I’m a WWII buff and YouTube is a must.

I bought the ROKU 3 box this Tuesday. Easy to setup. I am using the wired network cable connection (wifi is avalable). You need to buy a DVI cable to connect the ROKU to the tv and a network cable to your router. Just add the code they give you at Roku.com/link then they download updates. It connects automatically.

You are given a long list of free channels to watch like the History channel, A&E, NATGeo, Lifetime, FOX News & Business, Disney, Disney Junior, PBS, WeatherNation, Tastemade -food & travel, sports channels and more plus music like Pandora. Cnet for tech news. TubiTV for movies (most from bargain bin but some well known good movies and tv shows). Some commercials.

I have Amazon prime and the setup was to go to amazon and type in a pin you create and it somehow talks to the Roku device and you now can view your list of shows you setup on the Watchlist at Amazon under your account.

Many many more to choose from if you want to pay a monthly subscription though I do not see that happening other then Netflix. The remote makes it easy to get around and pause the broadcast or FF or RW. TIP: unplug the earphones as it runs down the batteries in the remote in a few days.

I can with my Mohu Leaf square antenna for over the air tv I can watch all kinds of shows for FREE! More of a selection then what I have on cable. It looks like I will cut the cord and just have internet service. Add ROKU and the tv antenna and my bill should be about $45 a month vs $137

ROKU has lots of time wasting channels. Not really any high quality stuff.
TheROKU movie channels are dominated by “B” & “C” level stuff that have lost their copyrights .
Our ROKU machine is mostly used to stream the NetFlix and
YouTubes.

I dont think NetFlix streaming is that great at movies either. Too many “B” or “C” choices.
The NetFlix does have ‘some’ good movies and some
good (i think cable) tv shows a year out of date. Which is fine by us.

The saving grace with ROKU to me is the recent addition of Youtube. I like old movies.
HWood could have fallen off the map back in the 60s and i would not have missed it. Dilligent searching for online movies (CopyWrited) of a “B-B+” level keeps me entertained when ROKU and NetFlix lets me down. This does require some work though.

Here is a movie list of some recent searching
i will start watching before some of them are forced to delete from Youtube . Most all of these meet my first criteria of having a quality visual image .
Many i have not watched yet....
First - the Carmen Miranda movies - starting
with Down Argentine Way, 1940 (Lib of Congress deemed culturally significant , and stunning color too!) and 3 or 4 of her later movies mostly all before 1946. Ive
seen first few of these and will finish the rest in the next week or two. I also watched Claudette Colbert in “Three Came Home” Jap POW story. Very Good!

Here is my Youtube search list - most i have not seen yet -some have already been removed... These will sometimes show up Later and disappear again.
The Youtube is like a big hide and seek game of copywrite war. If anyone has questions , i will reply .

The Awful Truth, 1937

King Solomon’s Mines

Ann Margret version. (IMDB 6.0)

The Shocking Miss Pilgrim, Color
Betty Grable, Dick Haymes, 1947

or typewriter, becomes the first female employee IMDB 6.4

I Cover The Waterfront - B&W
Claudette Colbert, Ben Lyon - 1933 - IMDB 6.3

Thunder on the Hill B&W
1951 Convicted murderess Valerie Carns is being transported to Norwich to be executed when
a flood strands her and her guards at a convent
hospital. Nurse Sister Mary (Claudette Colbert) becomes convinced of her innocence and sets out to find
the real killer. IMDB 7.0

It Happened Tomorrow , Dick Powell, Linda
Darnell, Jack Oakie, 1944 IMDB 7.2

Mr. Moto’s Last Warning,
1939 foment an international incident by mining the
entrance to the Suez Canal and blaming the British.
Peter Lorre IMDB 6.6

PS, I’m still
figuring out the IMDB rating sys. To me- the rating of a 6.4 or 6.5+ means its fairly entertaining to my level. You may demand a 7.0 or better to be entertained ..But a 6.0 (1940 movie) to me beats some of the “better “ new stuff nowadays.
