You can file a claim, if you've got comprehensive. I got 4K for a car one time.
They totalled it, but I'm still driving it. :)

"I had a RAV4 that was totaled by the insurance company for hail damage, paid me $4,200 and let me keep the car. Within a year almost all of the dents had popped out. What few were left could only be seen if you really looked hard for them and they could not be seen in photos. For some reason the insurance company never noted in the records that it had been totaled. I kept the car another ten years and recently sold it for $3,700."That's funny. I had a Grand Marquis totaled by baseball size hail and kept it after the insurance company paid me. I joked about it whistling at 100 mph.
I liked to take it to valet parking and look really surprised when they drove the car up. ;-)

Contact your insurance company and have them come over and inspect your roof for damage. Pardon, but NO NO NO!
NEVER call the insurance company until you're sure you have a claim you definitely wish to file. Calling your 'agent' (independent) is Ok, but NEVER the carrier itself as first contact unless you KNOW you want to file the claim. A claim that's filed and later not used can cost a person dearly.
For damage, consult a roofer. Get a referral from a neighbor or friend. No one better to assess the condition of the roof and qualified to go up on the roof for a proper inspection.

Back in the early 80’s I was walking in my neighborhood, a suburb of Columbus, OH (Pickerington), and was “terrorized” by a storm front that unleashed Hail the size of baseballs for over 10 minutes and I was fortunate enough to dodge the incoming projectiles and make my way to my father's house in one piece before the storm pummeled me into oblivion!

Lived in SW Oklahoma for a while - prior to a tornado, we had golf ball size hail for 45 minutes. It turned parking lots into junkyards and also did a number on roofs of houses. In areas where there is a lot of hail, they add a layer of shingles instead of tearing the roof off. Once there are three layers, and another bout of big hail hits, they then tear it down to the plywood and start fresh.

I don’t trust roofers. They “find” hail damage where there is none because they know there is a good chance they get to sell a roof to the insurance company with no questions asked.

If you’re suggesting that insurance companies are more trustworthy than all the roofers in your area (I ‘did’ type “get a referral”), I’ve got news for you...
...but I’m not going to be the bearer.

An insurance company is more likely to hire a third party to investigate the claim. I have climbed on an uncounted number of roofs for insurance companies where the roofer would find “hail damage” where there was none.

Big mistake. A zero-dollar claim is still a claim.
