Not much blood in the street that day because most of the blood was burned or buried in a deep hole that once was a pair of great buildings.

If that terrible day did not put lasting resolve for vengeance in the hearts of Americans then perhaps your second sentence is the correct.

I have of these past years wondered about that.

I know. It’s hard to believe how quickly people forget. My greatest fear is a Beslan type attack. At some point, people will understand why the Geneva Convention provides no protection for illegal combatants.
