Very early on, Jorah was a spy for Varys. The expectation was that Viserys was worth watching, and Jorah would send news to Kings Landing. And, oh yeah, Viserys had a sister names Danaerys who married a guy named Khal Drogo and then got pregnant. When Robert Baratheon found out about that, he sent an assassin. Now, the assassin was foiled by Jorah (who had had a change of heart), but Dany eventually found out that Jorah had been a spy and she exiled him immediately. Obviously he is not forgiven.
I'll have to watch again -- I thought that Dany was surprised and at least somewhat pleased (in a calculating way) when she realized that Tyrion Lannister was before her.
In the books, Sam is not really in trouble, but he will be taking a trip.
Yeah, Melisandre likes to sacrifice people with royal blood. And, hey, Shireen is already spoiled with greyscale, so why not sacrifice her? I guess Dad felt differently.
I see Shireen as Stannis’ undoing or at least his weak spot, but I also see a young girl who might grow up to be a very calculating ruler as well.
Dany’s demeanor was completely unchanged. I didn’t detect a hint of surprise.
I thought Jorah’s “slight” was something altogether inconsequential, but Dany strikes me as being somewhat petulant and impulsive. As she’s been in Mereen, she seems to be “getting it,” but I find her character somewhat boring, almost as if the HBO writers were thinking, “She’s the queen of fricking dragons! She doesn’t need a personality!”
Only 3 episodes left for this year and not much has happened to move the story along. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised over the next 3 weekends.
The story has begun to diverge from the books. I hope it doesn’t stray too far.
Daenerys was watching this unfold and seemed to take a lot of interest in this hero who could defeat without killing and one could see her blood start to boil. Oooops, the helmet comes off and she's dead in the eyes.
